Civ III wasn't as fun as Civ II and they were only ever fun on easy mode anyways. Speaking strictly for myself.

which is funny because the II was the only one that did nothing for me. I was a cult, III was full of great improvements (plus 3D) and IV is pure heaven.

I thought II was great because you could build military dictatorships to crush your enemies. In III I didn't find it was as easy to build a military and conquer. And that sucked a lot of the fun out of it for me.

that's cause you're a warmonger . the thing I love about IV is that there's such a big variety of ways how you can drive your fate, where military power supremacy is only one of the lot. unlike the previous Civ's, here it doesn't even matter how many cities your civilization has. which is cool.

That's true, I do like the warmongering aspect of it. I mean, succeeding on artistic merit is fine and all, but I like building the cities all over, spreading all over the landscape.

The other way is fine every now and again, but doesn't get my juices flowing.
