i find it ridiculous how they think about Young Thug's music more than he thinks about it himself. i've been following Thug for over a year, he killed everything last year as well as the year before that. but dude was barely even trying to make a good album. he was kinda lazy, uninspired and on autopilot. that review was full of contradictions, they basically admitted that it's kinda boring and subpar for Thug but said it could be a grower. lol.

Well, it officially drops on Tuesday, April 28th, but it's been in the works for a while. First single associated with the project came out in 2013. I don't remember this actually, but according to Wikipedia, that's how it went down. 2 singles in 2013, 2 this year, and a string of push-backs and delays in-between.

I've heard the name ("FILA") floating around for some time, so I knew it was overdue, but I don't know anything else about it. I'm a bad Wu-fan.

I hope it slays. I really do. If Wu-Tang isn't going to cough up Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, then fuck them... I'm more than happy to just start following Ghost, Rae, Deck, Gza (if he ever makes another album) and Meth as solo artists if Wu-Tang Clan (RE: Rza) is going to soil its legacy with half assed albums and bullshit attention games.

Spotify. It's showing a massive amount of 2015 releases that I've never seen before. I didn't investigate beyond looking at the main album page, so I guess these releases could be part of a reissue series, or maybe eps? I don't know. Take a look.

Hey guys, y'all need to listen to this shit A$AP. Got my hands on FILA, and while the production is quite different from the of school Rae we all love, but much of it still has a solid Wu feel... Ferocious gangsta shit, spastic scratches, Snoop guest spots. But there's also a distinctively more modern sound at play on many of the tracks... Melodic chorus samples, uplifting beats... Chipmunk soul vox? Yup. Yup to it all.

But the best tracks are this motherfucking bomb ass joint right here, with A$AP Rocky, the surprisingly hot track with 2 Chainz, and "Live to Die," which finds Rae at his story telling best. Narrating street drama like it was fuckin' 93.

This is a promising album, for sure. Even French Montana sounds good to me on this record.

I've noticed the Spotify date confusion stuff as well. For instance, they list 12 Reasons To Die as a 2013 album, but then the deluxe edition as a 2014 album.

Shit! I didn't realize! 13 is one of my favorite albums ever. I keep wasting to make a thread about the Magic Whip (and about Faith No More's Sol Invictus), but I've heard like zero discussion about it here.

I have the album btw. Got an early promo, so I've had some time to form an opinion. First listen was frustrating, as there were few moments of the kind of spacious, epic pop that I have come to expect from Blur. But now I'm digging it. Like a latter day REM release, it's just a great band finding a way to stay great without turning their sound completely inside out. It lacks the extreme experimentation of 13 and Think Tank (closer to the latter actually) but there are some golden moments for sure.

I really like it. I think Blur is finally receiving some long overdue mainstream international press acknowledgment for being a furiously fearless band, for whom the label "Brit-pop" was always an oversimplification of insulting proportions.

To call Blur Brit-pop is to call the Beatles "British invasion."
May have been true initially, but they transcended and became infinitely more complex than the category itself less than halfway into their career.

In a perfect world, they would have been the biggest band of the '90s. True inheritors to the Beatles legacy. Or maybe the Kinks legacy. The Stone Roses legacy? All three and then some?

Whatevs, Blur rules. Glad to have them back. Gonna see me a gig this time around.
