I don't think that he's much overrated. I think people have too high expectations even for movies that he does just "for fun" that are quite obviously not meant as masterpieces from the very early stages of development.

I mean, I think his good movies are reaaaally good, I don't care if there's some sloppy releases here and there, the "target" of the Studio Ghibli productions is quite specific from time to time..
Glad to hear Basterds is cool, I think I'll just go ahead and snatch some rip to watch it without dubbing...

Pretty much nails it, except for Princess Mononoke. I loved that movie and in my opinion it deserves all of the praise it received. Kind of liked Spirited Away too but it was far too overhyped.
