Marmite is vegetarian porky.

Customer Reviews of Marmite
Customer Rating: *****
Review Summary: NOT VEGEMITE!
Review: Marmite is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It is the thing that most ex-pats miss. But it is most definitely NOT Vegemite. That is an entirely different thing. Well - not that entirely different maybe. But, to my mind, Marmite is far superior. It tastes 'meatier', is a glorious glossy brown/black colour, comes in a much nicer jar and makes a lovely drink. 1 teaspoon in a mug of hot water in which you dunk thick slices of buttered bread. Lived on this when a poor student.

I'm one the few people in the world who doesn't love or hate marmite.I just quite like it. Actually that love or hate thing is bollocks, most people just like it.

i think it's just a difference in name between england and australia. it's pretty much yeast in both cases, as far as i've been told, though i've never tried vegemite. maybe it's a case of brand names or something.

Now you know - Marmite is 100% vegetarian.

Maybe your friend was mixing it up with Bovril.

which is definitely not veggie.

I was told by a teacher of mine when I was a kid, that it was an extract from cow blood. Go figure?

cebiche has raw fish (and/or seafood) marinated in lime juice so that the acid "cooks" it. it has onions, hot peppers, garlic, & other secret ingredients. eaten cold with sweet potato or sweet corn (cold).

tiradito is a simpler, "cleaner" version.

the trick is not to overcook the thing. 20 minutes to 2 hours is the right time.

though i once worked in a fucked up american restaurant where they kept the "cebiche" in the refrigerator for a week. fortunately i was fired. we would never do such crimes back home. (the idiot cook actually cooked the pesto as well, fucking up the flavor-- what a dunce)

Maybe he was thinking of black pudding which is boiled pig's blood in a length of intestine.

I think English food is winning out here.
