It reminds me of that story about the man who goes into a shoe shop & buys shoes that are obviously too small for him. When asked by the shop assistant why he tortures himself wearing shoes that are too small he replies, "Taking them off at the end of the day is the only pleasure I get".

Try wearing DM's in this weather, it feels so GOOD peeling them off at the end of the day.

I've been there pookie, I went through my DM phase about ten years ago, where I ALWAYS wore the bastards. I know the feeling, it is good, but I never wrote off sandals back then and still wore them. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that sandals are accepted in many cultures and are not a sign of male incapability if worn by said gender, actually its the men who are too scared or ashamed to wear them that are the ones that should examine their ''macho factor''. I think a large part of the unpopularity of the male sandal in the UK is that they have become inextricably linked with middle aged men wearing them with knee length thick woolly socks and large baggy shorts.

god, this thread teems with nerdy humor and arguments. Men, who don't wear sandals, when the thermometer says more than 30°C outside, actually don't do a favor to their feet. I don't wear them at work/university or when going out though, only when i go to the supermarket or the baths and that's what i do most during long vacation.

Some sandals are ok. Flip-flops suck. As do sport sandals. Hippie sandals are kinda cool because they are more comfortable. Anyone wearing socks with sandals (shoebies) are idiots. Sandals are made to be worn without socks. It's like a woman (or some men) wearing socks with high heels. It's just ridiculous looking.

I loathe wearing shorts, but in 90 degree weather on a bicycle I would die inside of 5 minutes. I am very sensitive to heat, and sometimes I just have no choice. I still won't wear sandals though. Shorts are totally not rock, but in the dead of summer rockness must occasionally be set on the back burner for me.
