If it's any consolation, it has exactly the same effect on me, except I laugh at the ridiculousness of crying to a Rolf Harris song. He's one of two musicians to make me weep in public, the other being Laura Cantrell. I completely forgot this masterpiece earlier . Not proper pop, but always sung by certain quarters I hated this at the time, but it's grown on me Getting silly now, WHISTLE POSSE!!!!!!!

my sister saw paris hilton in a night club in tokyo just before christmas and apparently she was hanging out with a large group of 40 year old men and the only time she got up to dance when her own song came on and then people started booing and jeering at her |

The greatest pop writers were the beatles, the beach boys, and michael jackson. There are plenty of great pop songs by other artists. I love pop, and I'm not afraid to say it. It just gets a bad wrap because there's alot of douchebags who make shitty pop and not enough serious artists who tackle the genre anymore. I would go as far as to say the Pixies wrote alot of solid pop songs. But they also rocked hard. Syd Barrett Pink Floyd had a few, quirky, but kickass pop songs in the vein of the pixies (using it as an example, even though they came before the pixies) like See Emily Play for example.
so yea, See Emily Play is my pop song of the moment. |

Agreed. But I will not agree that the beach boys were a shitty band. Take out Mike Love who contributed nothing musically, and they were actually a solid 50s rock n roll band. Stupid lyrics in the early days, but try to sing their parts and play instruments at the same time and you'd be simplifying it too, brotha.
:-) If you count their voices as instruments which you should, they are up there with any great band in my opinion, including zepplin. EDIT: WHOOPS IM HIGH! Thought this was the good songs by crap bands thread. God Damnit. |

I think Wild Is The Wind goes "Love me, love me, love me, love me, say you do. Let me fly away with you" The Bowie version does anyway. Great song.
