Oooh, I didn't hear about the gig until the tickets had already gone, but I can't miss SY when they're here so rarely. I haven't seen any of them since Thurston did Colours out of Space a year ago....
If Skrapes or anyone else still has a spare, I would love to buy it off ya. Otherwise I'll just be turning up super-super early to get one on the day. |

The guy who could have sold me the ticket has found a better buyer. Looking for one at a price in the region of £ 30/35.

I can't promise anything, but if I'm there in time I'll stick my head round the door and see if I can see you.

Sure, I'll probably be there with me buddies beforehand - I'll keep my eye open for you. Though, call me a party pooper but I don't have any alcohol when I see SY live, and I'll be dissapearing off whenever to ensure I'm at the front of the queue. I'm probably the least fun I ever am when I see SY live, but it's all to ensure I have the most fun, I guess. |

I'll whisper this, but I didn't think it was one of SY's better shows. It may have been the venue, rather than them, but it all seemed a bit sterile to me. And DV69 just didn't seem right - it was too big, too rock 'n' roll.
But in mitigation, I had a bad back, so I wasn't really in the right mood. |

First SY gig for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. DV69 was a great ending to the show, but I'd agree it did seem to come across as a bit of a bit rock 'n' roll number which maybe didn't sound quite right.
Wasn't expecting Hey Joni, so that was a bonus, but definite highlight for me was 'Cross the breeze. Can't wait for Dublin now. |

Setlist was -
main set - everything from The Eternal except Thunderclap and What We Know. +Hey Joni, +White Cross +Stereo Sanctity 1st encore: Tom Violence 'Cross The Breeze 2nd encore: What We Know Death Valley '69 (I've noticed this is a reccuring trend in recent setlists - can someone please explain why What We Know features in the encore and not the main gig? It's not old enough to be a classic, and even if it was, it wouldn't be) |

I kind of agree, I didn't tell my friends this just to avoid bringing the mood down but it was the weaker of the now 3 SY gigs I've seen. They were still fucking awesome, they always are. But perhaps what they played was too heavily leant towards Eternal material, I hate to think what classics tracks could have replaced the more disposable songs on TE, like Leaky Lifeboat and What We Know. I made a mistake with this gig, in expecting them to play a song. Judging on their setlists from the European gigs in the days before I was sure they would play Shadow of a Doubt, it was a pretty solid assumption, so I was pretty damn dissapointed when they didn't play it. It is afterall, my favourite song ever. I'm sure SY gig no. 4 at ATP will deliver where this one failed. Hell, I might even here that song. I won't assume so next time. I didn't find Death Valley 69 too rocky, it was a great way to finish the show and the definate highlight, almost making up for the absence of SOAD. Also, the gig was soured by some absolute c**ts next to me in the audience, that guy who shouted "you suck", and an unbeleivably creepy old bloke who was a relentless source of irritation to people infront of him, whom he leant on and girated against throughout. Chatting with Stu before and after the gig confirmed that the only Sonic Youth fans I don't tend to think are absolute pricks are on this board. So umm, love y'all. |

I enjoyed the show, by and large - it was nice to hear "Death Valley '69" being played at the end, and I was well impressed with Steve Shelley - he the man. It could have been a bit louder, but otherwise no complaints from me.
