that reminds me of this pretentious jagoff from high school. i was just looking at his facebook profile (out of curiosity, as my friend invited him to her new year's shindig thang. i wanted to see if he seemed as much of an insufferable dipshit as he was in school) and he claims his favorite books are "the oddesy and the holy bible."
yes. the oddesy. and hey. don't mess with kubrick y'all. |

Dull? 2001: A Space Odyssey was made in 1968. 1-9-6-8!!!
You were still a wet dream, snot nose. 2001 was nominated for 4 academy awards, but only recieved 1 for special effects. Go figure. The use of Also sprach Zarathustra and the Viennese Waltz in a sci-fi film, was and still is, pure genius. One of many epic moments in the film and cinema history.

Sorry, but 2001 was pretty dull. I only recently (like 10 years ago) was able to sit through it. And yeah, its a good movie but it just moves very slowly and deliberately. Its certainly got its fame through catch phrases: 'I can't do that, Dave' is certainly right up there with 'You talkin' to me?"
OTOH, Orig Star Wars (#4) was certainly action packed, edge of yr seat but it really didn't have a great story--Mr. Lucas'll tell you--it was a western set in space. Of course, that movie was brilliant compared to any of the newer (1-3) movies. Going to see Avatar soon!

Yeah, really they were. Not to say that they weren't great movies that I will continue to love but no the story lines were really not that great. There's all kinds of aspects that go into a movie. Its hard to get all of 'em right. One of my fav movies is Aeon Flux. I don't care that it really doesn't have much to do with the original series. I do like the cinematography, the costumes, the action. I love the sparse, even terse dialog. I gotta say, I'm a fan of symbolism that hits you in the face. The story is very simple yet goes where it needs to go. Dare I say, the movie has a very Bauhaus-ian quality about it?

At least you now know how to spell "odyssey" correctly. I assumed on reading your post that was the right way of spelling it. Thanks to you, I had BubbleBill on my back over it, who I've clearly mentally scarred over my correction of a word he misspelled in another thread. |

Yeah, saw the movie. Really good. Extremely beautiful. Designers studied Roger Dean--ie. floating mountains. 3D was done extremely well--not overdone. In fact, a lot of the big vistas were flat.
And the story? Loved it! You naysayers have got to be really cynical to dislike it. I will say that I'm not a big fan of the white man's expansion and exploitation of the earf. I've been to Little Big Horn and Big Hole and I've always been on the side of the Native population. I love the idea of the interconnectedness of the inhabitants of Pandora. Can't wait to see the 'behind the scenes' stuff.

Interesting article. Quote:
That seems so obvious to me but to hoards of Christians, esp. Amish, the bible says that is totally wrong. But actually, I was talking about the Pandoran 'USB' port that many (all) of the creatures share.

I was going to watch "Avatar" on Sunday, but all the best seats were taken. I didn't fancy watching James Cameron's magnum opus in one of the crap seats, so I didn't bother. I'll watch it at a later date.

There is certainly something to that: I like to go to movies before noon. Cheaper, less chance of screaming kids and pretty much your choice of seats.

I named my band after that ape. That's how much I love 2001. Not dull at all. Avatar was a great picture. Though some of the characters were a little thin, the movie got em where it counted.
