one day i went on a tour of the racetrack with my parents, when they worked for the visitor's bureau, and i just find it amazing how big of a deal fast cars are to people. there's a whole "daytona 500 experience!" museum with an imax documentary about the race and how the cars work. it's quite a bore.

I lived 45 minutes from Bristol so I'm all too familiar with that too. Basically everything within 50 miles shut down the week before races and the freeways were packed.

this year, the mall opened at noon and closed at 12:30 because of the race. they kicked me out at 12:20 saying there's no reason to shop on such an eventful day.
