yes, they played better but they lost their shit in the penalties-- 3 times. that counts for something... uruguay without fucile and suarez and maybe without godin and lugano is going to be in deep shit before holland, who will likely move on to the final. |

ghana tried plenty of filthy stuff including a dive in the penalty area (that uruguay soon followed). the rules were applied, suarez committed suicide to save that ball. winners win first and apologize later-- his stunt paid off though it cost him a card and the penalty (last minute? good gamble). on a related video, check this out for hilarity-- has a commercial and the video is not good but wait for the close shot http://www.metacafe.com/watch/171287/hand_ball/ |

Yeah, and even without the suspensions that game will've taken a helluva lot out of them, both physically and mentally. |

Exactly, it's a professional decision. If I were a Uruguayan and Suarez hadn't done what he did, I'd have gone mental.

Given what happened, I imagine the Ghanaians would be the first to agree with Ikara.

Amsterdam exploded after the game yesterday.
I hope you partied as hard as we did, pokkeherrie! The pubs were playing Brazilian samba all night long. Brasil! La La La La La La La La... La La La La La La La La... La La La La La La La La. Vai para casa, Brazil!

I'm seriously psyched for the germany/argentina game in the morning. I'm gonna wake up before noon for the first time in weeks to watch this shit. it's gonna be epic.

I just love the drama that has unfolded the past few games. the ghana/uruguay game was pure epic. I didn't give a shit about either team but that was by far the most exciting game yet. here's to hoping the germany/argentina match is gonna be just as epic if not more.

Possibly. I had a massive hangover this morning and noticed that the jeans I wore yesterday have been practically ripped in half. I can't believe I didn't even notice this happening last night. |

Why so sour? You should be happy, knox. Imagine what it had meant for the future of your beloved Brazilian football if Dunga had grabbed the cup with his squad of 23 defensive midfielders. Here's your chance to bring back the samba for 2014! First half Brazil completely outplayed Holland, but they really only have themselves to blame for their loss. Not finishing it off in the first half, sloppy lazy defending, crap goalkeeping, lack of concentration, Filipe Melo's lack of discipline (what did I say before the game about him kicking Robben, huh?)... and after Holland got that somewhat unexpected and lucky equaliser the Brazilians couldn't keep their nerves, meaning they couldn't have been all that strong mentally. I think this is where the Dutch squad has made a huge progression in the last few years. Remember this is largely the same squad who completely lost their heads in that kicking contest with Portugal during the 2006 World Cup. Brazil scored some awesome goals this World Cup (Maicon vs the commies, Luis Fabiano vs CIV), but I haven't admired their play other than that one game vs Chile and their first half vs the Netherlands. Argentina have been so much more fun to watch.... and yes, believe it or not, Holland really did consider themselves the underdog yesterday. Unique chance of reaching the final now. Uruguay will probably be really difficult as they're very well organised defensively and only conceded two goals so far, but I fancy our chances. I still consider Argentina and Spain the favourites to win the final. Can't wait for Argentina v Germany today! |
