hip hop is the culture
rap is what you do over a beat RAKIM is GOD rhymes within rhymes, schemes that make your head spin, rhythm and flow, smooth... I miss the days when RAP songs had no singing. i fucking HATE sing song choruses in rap, that is just POP with fucking spoken verses.
true RAP is straight RAPPIN over beats and music. I fucking cannot stand hearing goddamn church choirs singing bullshit taking up valuable rapping time, so the weaknut MC's can rhyme just three verses and make a 4 minute song out of it have you seen the lyric sheets to chuck D's shit? to de la? to Biggie? mo-fucks rapped verse aftre verse after verse

yeah, rakim is arguably the best lyriicist of all time. i might put ghostface ahead of him for storytelling, and i might put chuck d ahead of him for sheer ferocity, and i might put the gza ahead of him for vocabulary, but for pure flow no one touches rakim. i actually saw him and ghostface do a show together once. best hip hop show ive ever seen, and ive seen a pretty good amount.

1. RE: RAP VS HIP HOP -- "rap" is a verb. "hip hop" is a culture, which includes its own form of music. "folk music" as we've previously addressed in another topic.2. suchfriendsaredangerous: I'm so glad somebody understands the genius of FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. Everybody drools over Doc Oct, but I've always thought the Dr. Dooom record was a-fucking-mazing.
