Yeah, I love reading Neruda, and Lorca in Spanish. The words flow better than the translation.

well these are the superclassics, the sacred cows, the ones you can't miss. plus a couple of extra very good ones.
let's go with short stories. i'll just mention authors, you find what you can-- i'm sure in l.a. there's gotta be a place jorge luis borges (best... ever....) julio cortázar juan rulfo horacio quiroga gabriel garcía márquez (mostly a novelist but chkout "ojos de perro azul") josé emilio pacheco julio ramón ribeyro josé donoso alejo carpentier juan bosch check out the names in amazon maybe or barnes & noble online, often you can find... |

borges rules all, but he's very "brainy"
if you're interested in queer lit, check out reynaldo arenas, manuel puig, josé lezama lima, severo sarduy, & there are more, newer ones, but i'm a bit out of touch. |

Ah I'm not really into queer lit. It is always the same plot. "Oh I suffer coming out, I got beat, blah blah blah." But I did see reynaldo arenas bio-pic.

fuck no man, you have NO CLUE, latin americans aren't concerned with pedestrian realities like gringo confessionals & petty miseries, oh no!!
we are concerned with the imagination read please severo sarduy's "cobra" & have your mind forever blown. you really have no idea what awaits you... |

I will take your word for it. Because I am wrong with so many things. That's what I like with writers, using the imagination.
