29 Palms - 4/10

Stupid and pointless Antonioni wannabe. Probably has the most shocking ending ever though.

Point of No Return - 5/10

What was the point of this? It's a Nikkita remake.. but it LOOKS the same, has the same dialogue, etc. I mean, they change a few things, but usually for the worse. Probably only worth watching for Keitel.

City of Industry - 8/10

Speaking of Keitel, this is one shockingly engaging, underrated noir. Nothing groundbreaking, but I dunno. Something about it!

California Split - 8/10

Great movie, Robert altman is great.

I know I've watched many I'm forgetting but there ya go.

I'm happy to see people joining me in my dislike for TCM 2! It's not COMPLETELY horrible, I mean a 4/10 means to me below average...

But hey how 'bout that transvestite Leatherface?

So funny.

atsonic, you crazy? You give city of industry a 7/10 and Deep Cover a 4/10? shit

city of industry SUX. I was so fucking bored with keitel's schtick.

I love Deep Cover. Love it. It is a 8/10 for me. Considering it is a very low-budget flick, and not a typical hollywood flick for it;s time, I really liked it. Th eguy from Mod Squad, the preacher type guy, was the only weak link for me.. I thought Goldblum was awesome in it. Sean penn played the same type in Carlito's Way much later.

Oh well.

"you shouldn;'t have done that."

Don't mind him, Rob...

He gave the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre a 6/10, while rewarding Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation with a perfect 10/10. He's clearly out of his mind.

Nah, I just like films that entertain me, I don't rate films based on their importance, influence, star power, KEWL QUOTEZ, or anything else. Just flat-out how much they entertain me, cause me to think, etc.

Deep Cover is overlong gangland shit with annoying ass Jeff Goldblum. Too much Fishburne also. Made me feel uncomfortable. The ending was terrible. If it makes you feel better, I think King of New York is one of the greatest films of all time, if you're familiar with that film.

City of Industry is brilliant; bank heist turns into a revenge film, fast moving as fuck, and Keitel is amazing, as always. Keitel is my favorite actor, but I am not biased, I just find him entertaining when he's naked and doing drugs and throwing shit!

I don't have "crazy" tastes, I just watch a lot more movies than most people so I probably am not as impressed with things that impress other people. On the other hand, when a low key noir like City of Industry manages to impress me, visually and with its moodiness, and takes some chances with its material, it's extremely refreshing when it could have been just another crime flick.

King of New York is good , but no DEEP COVER

city of industry was straight up a formulaic crime flick man.

Then, Deep Cover was a straight up formulaic "undercover" movie. It had every stereotype in a movie EVER; the corrupt commissioner, all the gangland types (including the gay dude), the drug dealing evil lawyer, the cop who goes TOO UNDERCOVERR, and doesn't know who he is anymore. And it was 2 hours long! I dunno man. Goldblum was just terrible. That whole scene where he calls Fishburne his "beast" and that black girl a "jungle queen" made me feel uncomfortable, and not in a good way... didn't like any of the characters, so I didn't care what happened.

On the other hand, consider the 78 minute, lean, clean, fast-paced City of Industry. I didn't find it formulaiac, certainly not for 1997.. For one, it's a bank heist film that turns into a revenge flick. Actually, it did sorta feel like a Porter film... you know, Vanishing Point.. Payback... heh, Made in USA!... But, eh, I dug that. It was gritty as hell. Great atmosphere. The music.. man. I dunno. A 7/10 is a very appropriate score for it imo. It just means it's "Good". Keitel makes the movie.

I also watched White Sands around the same time, that'd probably be a 4/10 too. Anyone seen that? Starts out like the best movie ever, after about 15 minutes becomes the biggest shitfest ever, double crosses and triple crosses and quadruple crosses. Really stupid.

Anyway...

prince of the city - 9/10

Brilliant. Now this is a great film. 2 1/2 hours and never drags. Realistic as hell. Wow!

Funny Ha Ha - 6/10

This is supposedly the future of indie movies... people sitting around and talking about nothing. It was... alright. Pretty boring.

seriously? this true? but no one even suffers the wrath of his chainsaw in the next gen! The first one truly is a masterpiece in ways I think though, the lack of music in some key scenes like the one were leather face comes out of his studio and axes that kid.

What did you make of "the begining" Dr. Eugene?
I thought it was fairly impressive on the big screen, work pretty well if they did a 3d one I think.

I consider "the beginning" to be the worst of the entire series, although I didn't get to experience it in theaters. It's a shame, since I really appreciated the remake. The beginning wasn't necessarily awful, but it was extremely forgettable. Even part 3 had a moment of brilliance with Leatherface playing with his Speak & Spell. I just didn't see anything cool enough about this one to make it seem even remotely necessary.

Has anyone here seen Eaten Alive? It's a must watch for fans of the '74 TCM

^Eaten Alive is ... okay. Sadly it's probably Tobe Hooper's 2nd best movie (if you think of Poltergeist as a Speilberg). I mean, it's not horrible. And it has the famous Buck/Fuck line from Englund. BUt yeah. It's not that great.

Also, I liked THE BEGINNING. I thought it was the best one in years.

You're forgetting Funhouse. Clearly not a match for Texas Chainsaw Masssacre but far better than Eatern Alive. I'd rate Lifeforce above Eatern Alive too. Salem's Lot, too, if we're including TV movies.

Actually you are right. Funhouse is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Eaten Alive. And Lifeforce and Salem's Lot. I feel like I was just forgetting about those altogether.

1. Funhouse was actually pretty cool. Now I wanna see it again.
2. Eaten Alive is pretty shitty.
3. Spontaneous Combustion is one of the worst. Just thought I'd bring that up.
4. Driller Killer remake. Oh god. Bad.

"Was funny ha ha better than THE PUFFY CHAIR?"

No, not really. I dunno. I have seen MUTUAL APPRECIATION (which I hated), all of Ryan Trecartin's films (which I love; all 10/10's; completely insane), FUNNY HA HA, THE PUFFY CHAIR, BAGHEAD (which sucked ass), and I am downloading LOL, HUMPDAY, KISSING ON THE MOUTH, DANCE PARTY USA, IN SEARCH OF A MIDNIGHT KISS, QUIET CITY, and THE PLEASURE OF BEING ROBBED. After I watch all those, and CYRUS, I'll be able to make an educated guess on whether or not mumblecore is the biggest load of stupid bullshit ever made.

But I like the idea behind it at least.
