Truck Motherfucking Turner man!
10/10 cuz it's my fave blaxploitation flick. More exciting and tightly paced than Shaft (shaft was BORING), funnier and more entertaining than Superfly (which I still love though)

Another 10/10 for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. So funny, so clever and absolute great acting. I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard at the theater. GO See it!!

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

10/10, hands down

I don't think I've ever seen a more entertaining amalgamation of indie rock, video games from 8-bit 1-ups/cute sound fx to modern day leveling up/QTEs, comic books, and anime! I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz yet, but I want to check them out ASAP because if Edgar Wright's other work is even HALF as good as SPVTW, I'll probably love those too. Films like this are what Hollywood and American cinema need these days.

If you do not love this perfect summation of Gen Y, you have no soul.

I didn't care for Shuan of the Dead, found it a bit boring and uninspired. I'd rather watch Dead Alive or Return of the Living Dead. Never saw Hot Fuzz.

But is that 4 10/10's for Scott Pilgrim now? I think it is. BEST FILM OF THE YEAR.

I just can't believe it referenced Clash at Demonhead

one of my favorite games of all time..

I haven't seen Scott Pilgrim yet. But I thought Shaun of the Dead was great. And Hot Fuzz was a winner too. But Scott Pilgrim I think will be interesting because it looks like a huuuuuuuuge departure from the stuff he was doing in Shaun and Hot Fuzz. So I dunno we'll see, there are good reviews floating around at least. Final note, Edgar Wright's 'Don't' trailer was the best thing about Grindhouse, so there are some points there.

Yeah, Grindhouse sucked ass, but Don't and Thanksgiving trailers were great.

I seriously think Scott Pilgrim was the best mainstream film of the year, even better than Inception, I can't believe how jaw droppingly, show stoppingly, unbelievably clever it was. It was fucking HILARIOUS, too. Really a perfect film. I haven't been this blown away by a mainstream Hollywood production since the genius Crank 2, with its Godzilla fights, Lloyd Kaufman cameos, and talking decapitated robo heads.

I loved Grindhouse, even Death Proof. Interestly enough, one of the previews before Scott Pilgrim was for Machete. If that movie does not kick total ass, I will be SEVERELY disappointed.

Eh, I'm sure it'll be okay. Don't care for Rodriguez too much.

I can't remember what previews were before our screening of SP... uhhh.. oh, Easy A, which looked HORRIBLE...

Oh, just found out, Scott Pilgrim bombed -- one of the biggest flops ever, even. No big surprise, it was clever, brilliant, and hilarious, exactly the kind of thing mainstream American audiences don't want to see apparently.

1/10
I have started a quest to watch the IMDB bottom 100, and this was one of the ones that I hadn't already seen, that was also on netflix instant watch.
Just miserably bad, almost fascinatingly so, sometimes upsettingly. Colossal shit... but for some reason it wasn't hard to watch.

5/10
When hell is breaking loose, things are great... when they aren't.... ugh.

I had totally forgotten Easy A was before our SPVTW screening too...yeah, that's gonna suck. There was a teaser for Skyline, which looked OK, and M. Night Shamalan's "Devil", which I might check out on DVD...call me a wuss if you must, but watching a horror movie on a big screen through blasting surround sound isn't necessarily my idea of a good time (although I may have to make an exception when Ridley Scott's Alien prequel finally arrives, since I LOVE that series)...

Haha.. Devil.. The audience at our screening was laughing throughout that trailer, and when M. Night's name came up, I swear that you could hear a collecive groan and many, "Oh no" and "fuck him", etc. Hadn't heard of an Alien prequel..

Re: Expendables; the trailers make the film look SO boring. I wouldn't consider any of those people "action stars", except Sly... well, Bruce and Arny are but they're only in it for like 2 minutes, right? I mean, seriously, Van Damme has done better films than anybody in the film not named Sly, and how can you make an "all-star" action movie without Chow Yun Fat (The Killer, A Better Tomorrow, and Hard Boiled = 3 best action films ever, imo)? Just seemed silly, all those oldschool dudes who never made good movies to begin with, and some newer ones who are just embarassing. Statham is cool; I like Lock Stock and Snatch okay; obviously, I'm a huge fan of the Crank films. But STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN?! Jesus fucking Christ... either way, I'll probably end up seeing it. Eh, nah, I'll see Scott Pilgrim again.

Watched this, without subtitles:

A Simple Noodle Story, aka A Woman, A Gun, and a Noodle Shop. I know I missed out on a lot since there were no subs, but from what I could tell, this film was garbage. The only reason I watched it was because it's a Blood Simple remake. Weird. My advice is to just re-watch Blood Simple, which I think remains the Coens' best film -- I know a lot of people don't like it, but I think it's a bit misunderstood. It's a simple movie, motivated by the psychology of characters, and I just love its atmospherics, its love of trivialities.

re-watches:

FALLING DOWN - 5/10
Not as good as I remember. Michael Douglas is embarassing and laughable. This film is implausible and unsatisfying. It reminds me of Fassbinder's WHY DOES R. HERR RUN AMOK (an easy 10/10, one of my favorite films ever) but, y'know, mainstream-Hollywood-ridiculous. Entertaining enough but I loved it a lot more when I was 14.

KILL ME AGAIN - 8/10

Picked this up at a pawn shop for $1. I remember renting this a long time ago and watching it twice in one evening. This movie is so good. I don't like Val Kilmer or Michael Madsen, and this film is so good! Haha. John Dahl is quite awesome; Rounders, Last Seduction, and especially Red Rock West (which is very similiar to Blood Simple, btw) are amazing films. Kill Me Again and Joy Ride aren't too bad either. As far as unpredictable thrillers go, this is one of the best.

Ah, here's a bonus!

my top 10 favorite documentaries ever!!

1. Streetwise - a movie about kids living on the streets. one of the most heartbreaking and ugly movies ever.
2. American Movie - a no budget documentary about no budget filmmaking. funny as hell.
3. Landscape Suicide - insane experimental documentary about murder... makes me more uncomfortable than any movie ever made...
4. Thin Blue Line - Erol Morris's important documentary which was a recreation/dramatization of a crime, LONG before that was popular... it actually got the conviction overturned!
5. Manson (1973) - amazing charles manson documentary, explores sides of the Manson story that have never been exploded, like how the followers had babies (which they gave acid to!)... the creator of this documentary murdered after it came out..
6. Story of a Junkie - story of a junkie!
7. Jefftowne - the story of a mentally challenged William Shatner fan. Straddles the line between exploitative and genuinely touching.
8. Speaking Directly - Jon Jost makes a documentary about, well, Jon Jost. Is the perfect summary of his work (which he hadn't made yet; this was his first film). It's basically a guy with $600 who lives in a cold cabin with no food, no heat, no water, making a film, because.. well.. he doesn't know what else to do. Interviews his friends and family, most of who seem to hate him. Admits to his friend's wife that he wants to sleep with her on camera. Jerks off on camera. Gives you 4 minutes of a blank white screen to project your own thoughts and ideas onto it. Just 2 hours of brilliance.
9. Paradise Lost - It might be a little manipulative, perhaps, but it's still one of the most important docs ever, and the nearly 3 hours just go by... insane look into one of the most insane murder cases ever...
10. Some Kind of Monster - 3 hours of Metallica screaming and crying and hating their lives and their success. Absolutely pathetic and embarassing for them... watching them pour their heart and soul into an absolutely horrible album... brilliant and insane..
