Alphaville also took me a while to LOVE, but I think it's amazing now. That scene where he shoots the lighter! Haha.
I think my thing with Detective is, I watched it after watching the other 3 Godard films in that set. So, naturally, I was probably expecting something else, since those films are all so beautiful and amazing. I need to re-watch Detective sometime. I still don't think it's a "bad" movie though. I don't think any of his movies are "bad". Totally agree on Helas Pour Moi/Oh Woe Is Me, that film is amazing. Supposedly Godard's least favorite film of his own, which I don't believe, since clips of it are in some of his short films and in JLG/JLG. But I heard he had a falling out with the main actor in that and that probably is what made the experience so sour. Seriously, some of the best visuals in any film, ever. |

I absolutely adore Godard. Alphaville is my favorite of his from what I've seen. I just wish that I had the ability to see more of his films. I'm even a virgin to many of his classics.
*sigh* |

Showing your appreciation for a Jean-Luc Godard movie is a very pseud thing to do.

you're a pseud too for having an opinion on him, so if you're stuck being a pseud anyways why not at least watch some good films while you're at it |

My definition of a good film is one not directed by Jean-Luc Godard. Feel free to call me a philistine, I don't care. |

I'm not that big a Godard fan but can't deny that Vivre sa vie is a great film. Along with Le Mepris it's probably my favourite by him.

That's one I really need to give another go. I watched it years ago and really didn't like it very much but I should really watch it again, just to see if my opinion has changed since then. |

I mean, even if you aren't into Godard, New Wave, or good movies... it is worth watching just because Anna Karina is possibly the most perfect human female to ever exist.

Out of interest, why do you post on a SY messageboard? I mean, given your aversion to all things 'pseud', SY hardly strike me as being the most 'call a spade a spade' of bands. I mean they're not exactly Bad Manners now, are they? |

Pierrot Le Fou is top.
Keeping It Simple is hilarious, doesn't like Godard or Herzog though I highly doubt he's watched anything by either director. Funny stuff. |

One would think the only movies you and others watched were the ones directed by just those two, the way you carry on. |

I really appreciate KIS's general opposition to many things that most people on the board enjoy. Makes this place much less redundant.
