The Ramones inspired a small section of people into rock music. The Beatles' influence went across genres. Obviously they never influenced everyone but those they did were certainly spread across a far wider spectrum of styles than was the case with The Ramones.

You'd have thought so, but then someone always comes along and insists that they invented penicillin midway through recording 'Yesterday'.
