No you're not....not really. I grew up largely on a council estate in mid-wales. Although being mid wales it wasn't really that rough or anything. A fair share of bratty kids running around the place but not really getting up to much more than youthful hi-jinks or a bit of tomfoolery. But I also spent my early years (up to age 7) in a nice apartment in Hong Kong where my dad had the uber-middleclass job of University lecturer. So I don't really know whether to consider myself working or middle class. I don't really feel right labeling myself either. |

Who is the most upper/middle class member of this board then?
I can't be the only ex-public schoolboy here, can I? Hands up who isn't an oik! |

I'm glad you raised this Pookie.
The "chav" thing is ridiculous. It's become (wrongly, in my view) an acceptable way for people mock others. Generally it seems to be a fairly middle class thing, a way to make fun of those less well off than themselves. All snobbery sucks. The thing that annoys me most, is that generally, on the occasions I've heard people using the term "chav" as an insult towards others it seems to stem from people who would usually go mad if someone were to insult or label them in a similar fashion. Hypocrites. |

CHaaaaaav.
It really lacks more consonants as a word. I'm working class, but I often get called a posh twat because I'm incredibly intelligent and well spoken. Well, the men say I'm a posh twat. The girls just call me, "Him with the massive wang". Such is my Mafiosa-esque power.

a lot of this debate is ridiculously reactionary, and stems from a slight misunderstanding of the meaning of the word. coming from nottingham, "assassination city", ive had ample experience in dealing with them. Contrary to popular belief, it has NOTHING to do with class. I grew up in a really middle class area of the town, so i hold no pretentions to the idea of being a part of the working class. However, i can tell you that there are just as many chavs, or as we call them "skally cunts" from middle class and upper middle class backgrounds as there are from working class. its a style of dress and music and attitude, not a social division. To accuse someone of being a snob because they get fed up loud twats yelling insults at them from across the street is stupid, as just as many of those twats are form middle and upper middle class backgrounds. Its got nothing to do with class.

I kind of find them funny those Wiggers or whatever they are called. Especially when they start acting tough. They should come to my neighborhood and they would not last.

no, chavvers isnt a real word. half the chavs ive ever met have come from comfortable backgrounds. it may have once originated as a working class style, but spread from solely that grouping ages ago.
