Naw. I just watched Buffalo '66 after The Brown Bunny was already out of the "art movies" section of the theatre, so that was a bummer. I'll try to find it somewhere to rent.

Remember how when you first saw Buffalo '66 (well maybe not you young tykes) and you thought to yourself what bright futures Vincent Gallo and Christina Ricci must surely have?

hahaha

Those were the days...

And of course, Star Wars (Empire, in particular).

Empire is the best movie and the most entertaining, yes, but Star Wars is the best film, I suppose. I don't think Jedi (ROTJ) would make my top 100.

I'd go for The Dirty Dozen or The Killers as a Lee Marvin movie, I think, but, then again, he is really good in The Big Red One. I suppose that, in the end analysis, you're picking it more for Fuller than Marvin.

Lee Marvin is my stepdad's favorite. He also loved Steve McQueen.

Stay far away from Marvin appearances in Cat Ballou and Paint Your Wagon though.

more personal trivia:
The only movie that, as a child, my stepfather ever forced me to sit down and watch is Sergeant York. It's a true story and it's pretty damn good.

Johnson: Would you look at how fast they put the names of all our guys who got killed?
The Sergeant: That's a World War One memorial.
Johnson: But the names are the same.
The Sergeant: They always are.

I love the way Fuller always has a character in his movies named Griff.
One of my alltime favorite movies. It's in my top five.

I laughed at how they hide in the cave and keep shooting germans that run in looking for cover from enemy fire. At a certain point there's literally a pile of them at the entrance of the cave.
Awesome!

Oh yeah, I remember that scene now.

The Big Red One really makes you care about the characters. Moreso than a lot of, or most, war movies. Full Metal Jacket and Combat! the TV series are about the only war dramas I can think of that also have such marvelous characterization. Saving Private Ryan and HBO's Band of Brothers were okay.
Apocalypse Now and Platoon had some sketches of characterization that are masterful, but both of those are more like allegories or morality plays really.

The Steel Helmet has great characterization too.
Most of Fullers movies do.

I also enjoyed The Thin Red Line, Platoon and Hamburger Hill to a certain degree.

Paths of Glory is a good courtroom drama.
Sublime role by Kirk Douglas.
