I'm done with film hype though.... I also saw The Hangover and thought it was the stupidest piece of shit I've ever seen. It felt like a montage of rejected material written by the writters of Friends or something. The characters were completely unlikeable and non-memorable. It had no more humor than an average TV sitcom (at best). I literally didn't laugh once and kept waiting for it to get funny, just sure it would. The only time I even remotely smiled was the parts with Mike Tyson, because he's just funny by default. It ripped off Dude Where's My Car, by DWMC was actually funny, unique and creative.... full of memorable quotes. Compared to something like SuperBad, Hangover is just embarrassing.

1. You need to see IB from the beginning. It's... amazing.
2. The Hangover was fucking terrible and not funny.

the first is darker. And closer to the comics.

But I don't know. I always loved the 2nd. I watched it way more. Which is crazy to say> Cuz the first I probably watched 100 times. Pfft.

It's inspiring, unique, was indeed like nothing else like it before (though, obviously, one can draw links to things like FUNERAL PROCESSION OF ROSES, EMPEROR TOMATO KETCHUP, etc... hell, even LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAND -- but there was certainly nothing like it in American underground cinema at the time). To be honest, I thought it was extremely boring and dull when I first saw it 10 years ago, but I learned to appreciate the finer details, and now I think it's one of the best films ever made.. easily.

But yeah, I mean Lynch is just a gateway to better directors, but he's still got an interesting style.

Perhaps hate was an excessive word to use, as there were parts of the film I liked (Man in the Planet, Lady in the Radiator, those dirt mounds), but as a whole I certainly didn't like it. Maybe I've become more expansive in the four or five years since I saw it, that I might be able to appreciate it more now. But I dunno, there's plenty of german experimental film from the 20's that kind of exists in the same vein as Eraserhead (though far more disjointed and um, themeless). Maybe it's as you said and I just need some more viewings (seen it twice) and maybe it'll just come to me and I'll understand it. Who knows, we'll see. I love the Greg The Bunny parody of Eraserhead that's for sure!

As for Turtles II...the only body hurling amplifier explosion movie that rivals Back to the Future. Great movie. Doesn't even come CLOSE to touching the first film, but still fantastic. I love that "Yeah, a little too Raph!" line.

Here's a great press interview with Barbara Walters for the second film.

That one is the best one. I wish Cuaron had directed all of them. Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix are pretty embarrassing.

The Sorceror's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets, like the books they're based on are kids' movies, but for kids' movies (and kids' books) they're pretty good.

The Prisoner of Azekban was very artfully done and was probably the first "mature" Potter film.

With The Goblet of Fire, it's like they told the director, "OK, this story's gonna be a bit darker than the first 3", and he took that idea and RAN. Overly grimy palette, dreary soundtrack, and less 'fun" overall. You gotta admit the Weird Sisters rocked, though...

I really liked Order of the Phoenix. The lady who played Umbridge was really good, the twins' escape from Hogwarts was hilarious, and I liked the nod to Citizen Kane with the giant poster of Cornellius Fudge in the Ministry of Magic.

However, while I didn't think it was a bad movie, I found myself unentertained by The Half Blood Prince. I dunno; maybe I'm just sick of the franchise by now.

I'll definitely watch both parts of The Deathly Hallows, but I don't know if I'll make it a point to see them in the theater. I'll also probably be glad the whole thing's finally over.

Haven't seen Half-Blood Prince yet. I have no idea how they could make it good though. That book was kind of weird from a narrative perspective. It's not really like the rest.

But I think you're mostly right about the rest. The first two were really good kids pictures, got the style down pat and was just really delightful to the eye and full of some pretty cool ideas.

And I'd just quote you about prisoner, that's the exact way to put it.

But with Goblet on, I dunno. Maybe it was the haircuts or something, that movie just feels off. Goblet of Fire is the second best book in the series I think, and the movie I dunno, just didn't really convey it very well. Maybe for the reasons you said. But the severity of that last act doesn't come through at all I think. In the book it was really intense, in the movie, uh...alright.

Phoenix I don't really remember to be honest, guess I'll have to watch it again. I remember the last act being really underwhelming though.

I don't know what the hell they're going to do for Deathly Hallows. That first movie is going to be so boring. Who knows how they'll make it interesting. Second half will be out of control though.
