I personally like watches, though I've never gone more expensive than a couple hundred dollars. But I think they can be a nice accessory. Even a cheaper watch is a much more elegant accoutrement than a cellphone!

Cool pocketwatch, Rob. Though they don't work for me personally.

All the decent watches I've ever owned have had a habit of dying on me prematurely (i.e. not working even after changes of batteries etc). I'm currently sporting a cheap Sekonda watch, which I admit does look pretty meh, but at least it works and is reliable.

I currently wear a self-winding watch. No batteries. I've found those are the best. I've always had problems with my battery watches.
