To celebrate a Folk Music thread reaching 7 pages on a Sonic Youth forum, here's a picture of British comic writer Alan Moore.

Anyone have an idea what his musical preferences are? Something tells me he likes a bit of ye olde psyche-folk. Although he probably doesn't at all. Maybe it's just that I really WANT him to.

edit: I saw him in a comic shop when I was about 13. (not someone you easily miss). He signed my copy of that week's 2000AD. I felt like I'd just met Elvis or something. I actually think I might've let out a little fart of excitement.

Here's a fun folk project: First, get Dylan's first album, Good as I've been to you and World Gone Wrong. Second, track down as many previous versions of these folk chestnuts as you can. Third, send me a cd-r.

i just bought Comus' collection of both their albums. the first one is brilliant, the 2nd less so. im not sure that they can be classified as folk, but they sure had a huge influence on all of the free\freak folk thats going on now...
i also bought blind lemon jefferson, but he is blues...

Comus' first LP definitely falls under folk or more accurately "progressive folk." The 2nd is definitely a disappointment by comparison. That first one is one of the greatest recordings of all time in my book, especially considering when it was made.

its pretty fucking incredible (the 1st LP). they only had a two cd set for like 20$ of both albums so i had no choice. and the friend that i was with said that he would give anything to see it on vinyl. then a few hours ago we went to our usual hangout and this guy pulled out a pile of records (including forever changes by The Love) and there were not 1 but 2 copies of comus' first album. sonofabitch...

Originals of the first LP are pretty rare/expensive, but the Get Back reissue is gorgeous and includes the mega rare "Diana" 12" as well. Glad I nabbed one of those.

Yes I read that. It's really interesting but at the same time frustrating. I love ISB, Heron, and lots of Williamson's solo stuff but find his world quite an alienating one. I can listen to his music at any time, but in order to digest the more whimsical aspects of his overall 'message', I have to really be in the mood. Which is quite depressing really.
