finally saw "santa sangre" via netflix. awesomely bizarre and macbre. in a way it was kinda the least f'd up of all jodorowsky's classics, but it seemed to screw with me more than el topo or holy mountain. coulda been because i watched it real late after a long, exhausting week and a half, but i was up for a bit pondering it.

People hate this movie? Why!? Is it because the phantom wasn;t all disfigured and shit? What about that part with the giant mousetrap floating through the stormy sky with people trapped in it? What about those parts with Asia Argento's shotgun titties hangin out? What about all the sweet gore? What about all the terrific framing?! I liked it a lot actually! Watching Sleepless later today/tonight. Quote:
I must be super-idiot, I'm a fanboy of both. ha I like Kevin Smith movies too. |

are you kidding me? Phantom Of The Opera was shit.
I Like Kevin Smith too. Except for Dogma and Jay & silent Bob Stireks Back, I'd say I love all his movies. I saw the ad for Scream 4 on TV tonight I was so excited I kept rewinding and rewatching!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go watch Death Proof again guy. I'm very very "meh" about J&SBSB. Have yet to see Jersey Girl. Hated Cop Out. Everything else from him I love, with Clerks and Chasing Amy being my absolute favorites. His new horror flick, Red State, should be pretty interesting though. Supposedly after this, he's making a hockey film, Hit Somebody... and then he's quitting directing to exclusively produce for upcoming filmmakers? At least that's the rumor. Hopefully he milks the View Askewniverse at least one more time. SNOOTCHIE BOOTCHIES! I can't wait to see if I'm in the final cut of Scream 4. I thought my back was in the trailer, but when I saw a higher-def version... it definitely wasn't me. The film looks very promising though. |

I can't remember exactly who recommended this to me a few months back (LifeDistortion, I think?) but I really appreciate it. This film hit the spot. I've never liked Dazed and Confused, but I am a Linklater fan (Slacker rules). His style is just so minimal, relaxed, and natural. So many directors have attempted to achieve that vibe and failed. Also, having Skinny Puppy and a ton of Sonic Youth in the soundtrack makes any film better in my eyes. |

Not wanting to open old wounds but I'm in total agreement with noisereductions on Argento. Deep Red and Suspiria are about the only films of his I'd say I like without major reservations. But then I'll watch anything with Shannon Tweed in it, so I'm no judge.

Watched Air Doll again. I love that film. I also love how the official Japanese edition comes with english subtitles. Now just to buy this $300 All Region Panasonic Blu-Ray/DVD player.

What a classic. Cemetery Man (Dellamorte Dellamore) is unbelievably sleek, macabre and dreamlike from start to finish, and damned funny too! I really need to check out more of Soavi's stuff. Deliria/Stage Fright/Bloody Bird (whatever) looks especially cool. Has anyone here seen it? |

@Joe, YES! Cemetery Man is AMAZING. I guess yr really going thru an Italian phase now huh? I did the same after first getting into Argento. I started watching a lot of giallos and Italian horror stff. I tihnk I found a lot that I liked way more than Argento too, (cept Opera of course)
anyway, if you like Cemetery Man, check ou tthe Dylan Dog comix.

I love Dellamorte Dellamore/Cemetary Man but was really disappointed with Stage Fright. Soavi's The Church (produced by Argento) is worth a look.

I'll give Opera another try. I remember not being all that into it at the time but that was a while ago. I should also watch Inferno again, for the same reasons. |

Yeah, I've been on a kick lately. Some have been re-watches for me though. I must've seen Cemetery Man at least 5 times now. I like Fulci a lot too, and Bava is great from what I've seen. I don't really know anyone aside from the big 3 though. Funny that you mention the Dylan Dog comics, I was looking into them last night after watching the CM featurette. Turns out Dark Horse released an English translation, so I'll have to check next time I go on a shop run. Quote:
I have The Church in my Netflix queue, I'll be sure to check it out. Quote:
I'd recommend giving Phenomena another go, while you're at it. It's his masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. I've read that it's his own favorite film of his too. |
