In a thread about expression on another board I post on, I said that I wondered why humans are the only animal that bears its teeth and smiles when happy, rather than when threatened like other animals, and someone posted this as a response:
Then the Lord said, Lo! I will make man smile as I do, bearing proudly my pearly whites, to make him distinct from the beasts that roam the earth. And so it came to pass, but man's teeth suffered from all manner of infection, stain, imbalance and lodged food. And lo! the Lord did weep over his creation, seeing that man's teeth were imperfect without affordable dentistry and accommodating waiting rooms replete with magazines. And the Lord sent down braces unto the people of the earth, from on high in heaven, to correct their teeth and make them incline unto one another. - StevOK 12:8 |

I'm rewatching all of Twin Peaks with the old lady, who had never seen it before.
Hard to believe such a brilliant show was ever on mainstream television and was a hit! |

I liked season 2 more, actually. I mean, you can't make a whole show about who the killer of Laura Palmer is. I'm glad they resolved that and moved onto other things. The show is called TWIN PEAKS, not LAURA PALMER (though in Japan, the movie is called "THE LAST 7 DAYS OF LAURA PALMER"). Season 2 is a lot darker... love the guy who plays chess with cooper after he kills people, not to mention David Duchovny's involvement.

hot damn seson 2 was a pointless meandering mess with no discernible end. i think they got all these different writers and it became gimmicky shit. except for some fun moments.
but the chinese girl was hot hot hot |

I thought everything ended pretty perfectly. There were a few characters whose endings weren't resolved, but that was because there was hope of a season 3 which never came. The actual last 2 episodes were a bit slapdash and forced, but they were rushed to quickly end the thing just in case. As a whole, though, season 2 is a lot stronger, the characters are more fleshed-out, and the story becomes more about the people of Twin Peaks and not just Laura (which Lynch always intended anyway; his original intentions were to never reveal the killer!). Also, season 1 is only 7 episodes, so it's hard to really compare the two, since season 2 has almost 3 times as many episodes and therefor is naturally going to dip below and rise arive as far as quality goes in parts of the season.
Still, both seasons are essential. |
