I still think Fulci had the best zombies in that era. Romero had the better ideas about them but most of the ones in Dawn and Day are just extras painted blue, told to walk slowly. Fulci's look properly disgusting. The only one that could compete on that level was Return of the Living Dead, another one of my faves. But the scene at the end of Fulci's one, when the zombies are crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, is in a league of its own. And yeah, who can't love that zombie vs shark moment?

100% agree. The first Hellraiser is one of those films that I think really needs remaking by a better director, albeit with the same cast. I know I'm in a massive minority with that, though.

This is my number one favourite film I've seen in the past 2 years, love it to death. I was captivated by the down to earth qualities and honesty, something just came across that smacked me over the head and lovestruck me with every facet of this film. The end is icing on the cake, a surreal feeling was evoked. The soundtrack done by French producer, Para One, is pure electronic bliss. Well known for being the second half of the production team along with Tacteel for the Big Dada signed French hip-hop group, TTC. Para breathes the precise sounds that the film needed and invigorates the plot of lust and love. Rewatched only three times, need to watch it more and buy the Blu-Ray and soundtrack.

took lunch time off & finally went to see AVENGERS, which was great!

it starts so-so and then it picks up speed and doesn't let go. great... everything! especially joss whedon's signature humor. lots of great lines.

i sure am glad i stayed until the very last minute of the very last credits as i usually do--most people left and missed out on the laughs. (if you haven't seen it yet, stay till the very end).

can't complain about anything in that movie. okay, maybe the beginning was a little slow and obvious, but hey, not everyone has seen every preceding movie, so it was a required intro.

and then the whole attacking force had very little strategic sense shooting taxicabs and coffee shops and office workers, the dolts... ha ha ha... but that's usual action movie fare, and it's therefore forgivable

scarlett was hot and robert downey was great and everyone was great really, the whole cast, great ensemble.

anyway, good times! and i sure am glad i watched it on 2D cuz those fast moving action scenes would have been headachy as fuck with the glasses on

I didn't like this when it came out, probably because I wanted so desperately to love it. The less you demand from it, though, the better it gets. Crispin Glover is excellent, in a Crispin Glover kind of way.

i saw the batman trailer @ the movies yesterday and i wasn't too impressed, but i *do* trust christopher nolan since the day i saw memento. i believe he'll deliver.

what he won't be able to match though is joss whedon's great dialogue and sense of humor. sorry but no.

what that trailer shows is fantastic cinematography and extraordinary effects---but in terms of characters and story, it gets too heavy for cartoon characters and it gets ridiculous, so it's hard for me to take it seriously sometimes. whedon keeps the level of irony just right. also, scarlett >>> hathaway.

yeah it doesn't need to be a comedy but with certain subjects (e.g., grown men wearing capes) it's sometimes good to keep a twinkle in the eye and not go all-method. which reminds me how much more fun it is to watch RDJ than hearing douchebaggy christian bale scream at the crew.

this also relates to another trailer i saw yesterday, and that was spiderman's-- i'm glad sad-looking tobey maguire is no longer playing peter parker. the new one seems to be more fun.

anyway, CORNY ONE-LINERS? no you didn't. but it's okay. from what i could tell from the trailer, it's catwoman's job to deliver them in the new batman.

re: nolan's batman, i really, REALLY liked the first one of the trilogy. it totally blew my mind. reason was that i went there expecting nothing and i got a great fucking plot and characters and all. so it was a great surprise. dark night was overhyped cuz it featured a dead man walking, and it relied a lot on "cheesy effects" (my answer to "corny one-liners" lol), and so while it was alright, it let me down a little, and it felt it was more stereotyped compared to the first one.

i'm going to watch the next batman of course and i hope it's good but i'm not willing to praise it or declare winners until i watch the whole of it myself.

I totally agree. It's a difficult line, though. I think it's possible to treat superheroes with a sense of humour without the whole turning into flat-out comedy (although I though it worked with Iron Man). But I equally don't like it when the whole thing gets a bit too serious, either (Watchmen). Part of why I think Keaton was such a good Batman was cos I think he got that balance just right.
