Apologies to the Australians here, but The Saints were a mediocre pop punk band.
I've been listening to Sandinista this morning. Even now it's too daring for some tastes. |

Beck is, indeed, shit. There's half an alright tune on Mellow Gold.
On the Clash/stodge front, let's remember that their most obvious, explicitly musical, influence was on Billy Bragg, the Jam, the Police and Rancid. Which probably makes them as responsible for comedy ska-punk as Madness, who are nearly never considered seminal.

I had this misfortune to hear the new Beck single on the radio this afternoon, and can report it's up to his usual banal and turgid standards. Why doesn't he just retire and stick to hanging around with his Scientology comrades?
Any, back to punk/proto-punk - anyone got any love for Radio Birdland?

Lists are no fun when they aren't in any order. It's the order that maketh the controversy

Your failure to rise to the challenge saddens me Mr I. You of all people. A man I have always thought of with such fondness and respect. Such a very bad day for lists this has proven to be. |
