Tried to watch Raising Arizona yesterday night (never seen it before) but fell asleep.
some interesting animated shorts I just watched: Allergy to Originality (Drew Christie) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4KF8Mko7Z0 Eager (Allison Schulnik) http://vimeo.com/83390470 Eager is fantastic. Features one of the best claymation work i think i've ever seen. |

Not a "last film I've watched" per se, but I didn't know where else to bung this on here: c/o the BFI site, here be some behind the scenes pics of De Palma's "Scarface": http://www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/n...cenes-scarface

Interesting one.
Not quite sure if it's a movie or a record though. Common Eider, King Eider - Sense of Place They released that as DVD+CD and you're supposed to play both audiotracks simultaneously. It documents them flying to Alaska to build a cabin of some sorts. OH, and it comes with this book of photographs (my favourite one being of a rotten banana lying in the snow) and a poem by Ben Chasny. short clip: http://vimeo.com/45484693 |

Of all the 80s campy horror flicks which relied on sex, overly dramatic special effects, a tint of Catholic guilt, and bad camera shots I think the Howling series was the best. The story line of people turning into animals at least connected all those dots better. The sex scenes were classic horror nudity to essentially compete with the newly popular 1980s porn, but was also a satirical play on it. In the Howling I they have an obviously controversial full-frontal female nude sex scene.. but it is also the scene where we first see people turn into wherewolves. All of the sexuality is in part, exaggerated in the wherewolves as bestial. Hence the Catholic guilt. Our inner demons. Yet, really, think of all the gossip in this world, isn't a huge deal of it caused by sex? People sleeping with people they maybe shouldn't have, or wouldn't have, or at the least the timing was bad. Yes, I bet y'all didn't realize that the cheesy Howling series was a morality play.. much like the Bush II Administration

Well the pigs and chickens are kind of mercilessly killed, so I'm not sure suicide is even applicable.
