I must've missed this thread. Thanks for the tip^. Need to get it. I've read the whole thread and couldn't help but notice that Karen Dalton hasn't been mentioned at all. I recently bought It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going to Love You the Best, which is phenomenal. Here's some videos: It Hurts Me Too God Bless the Child |

You're welcome.
It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going to Love You the Best was re-released in 2006 and contains a 2nd disc of video material on DVD. A must have if you like her. Link: http://www.forcedexposure.com/Labels...one.uk.uk.html |

Old Springs Pike, they're brilliant. Four people: two on acoustic guitar and two switching off between the tamborine, the melodica, hitting empty bottles, and stomping. Four-part harmony. Also 3/4 of the band are actors so their banter is amazing.
Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda: http://youtube.com/watch?v=0QN_kMEQKh0 [it's pretty much Beatles covers and banter] MTV Special: http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=1567944&vid=171543

My friend Timothy released that deluxe reissue. It's totally essential; one of the best acid-folk LPs I've ever heard. Super way far-out for its time too. |

i love the way they try to do like gregorian chants, then switch to san francisco-like phrasing and going all "jesus!!!!"
i didn't love it, but i have only listened to it once. it's definitely bizarre! |

The 2xLP reissue on Locust by the Wisconsin Xtian psych-folk band Silmaril is well worth checking out too.
Did you hear the 4xCD version of the Trees stuff, or the unauthorized crappy needle-drop bootleg Radioactive version? Tim's remastering job on the original tapes is pretty great. |

i downloaded it from the intraweb, it was definitely not a 4 disc dealy...and now that you mention it, the sound was a bit shoddy and contributed to my likeness of it, or lack of it.
i need to do some shopping at locust, will check that band out. |

The whole Manson thing tends to bore me to death, but the 'Family Jams' album is pretty good, especially the version of 'London Bridge is Falling Down'.
And this too is actually far better than some people might initially think. |

That Manson Family Sings stuff (which I assume is the same material as Family Jams) is way better than any of Charlie's solo music IMO, and much of it stands up with any of the most chilling acid-folk music I've heard. I have the old version that came out on Storm in the early 90s on LP, and it still gets tons of play around these parts.

Yeah, I imagine it's the same album. The one I have is a double CD with loads of alternative takes, etc. I love its freeform nature. Totally agree about it being better than Manson's solo stuff. I was just listening to Lies though and, while its definitely no classic, I find it hard not to find something to like about a song such as 'I am the Mechanical Man'.
"edit:] Can anyone recommend me some Jackie-O Motherfucker and Sunburned Hand of the Man? |

The Trees box set is a grower. My first impression was that te 4 discs were unnecessary. After some repeat listening, i really love this. Even though I don't believe all four discs are essential, I couldn't really imagine a reissue campaign of individual cds being received quite as well and I look forward to getting familiar with the collection over time.
