Tucker Carlson is the worst Democrat ever. I blame him more than any individual Republican for the watered down, compromised, fuckup circle jerk version of ACA that we ended up with. Yes, it's strange that it's not bigger news. It's tying things up quite a bit in the Midwest though. Something is fishy though. The fact that Wisconsin is underway, and Michigan is such a big concern for the Trump team makes me more suspicious than I was. I still think MI will go to Trump, but I maintain a high level suspicion of election tampering, and if that can be proven or uncovered at even the smallest level, it will be a mighty blow. Yeah, I'm confirmation seeking. |

the other ting is i read about the satanic move on i think jezebel the other day but the catch is that they will wait for one of their members to have and abortion AND THEN sue. which is kinda like, i don't know, not quite the same. but ah, texas. american capitalism can offer a more immediate solution though. if you can get a mass cremation for a 14lb cat for like $50, i'm sure for a batch of embryos you can reduce it to $5 per specimen at most. or cremate it in a toaster oven, say a few words, go home. all they're doing is reducing the supply of embryonic tissue for research. |

Yeah I fudged that sorry I guess. My mistake. But this is where it came from. I happened upon this pretty recently, did a quick search and found the link so y'all don't think I'm ass-talking. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...=.c4b7661db9c6 I had no real justification to blame him for ACA bumfuckery though. I guess I meant "his kind" (closet Dems? Dems with conservative financial or professional ties? Fair weather Dems?) but if he's not a dem then fuck me, I suck. |

i heard this old song in the only radio station of my redneck town. it's weird lyrics man. i don't know what they did to them.
Moderator, well could you help me close this thread? see, the usefulness of it is old and faded Suchfriends lives in L.A., he said he'll never vote any day, elections are a lie that he's always hatin' Isn't that the way they say it goes? Well, let's forget all that And close down this thread so i can't find it So I can post just to tell 'em I'm fine and to show I've overcome the blow, I've learned to take it well I only wish my words could just convince myself That it just wasn't real, but that's not the way it feels Moderator, well could you help me close this thread? Well, I can't read the FAQ that you just gave me There's something in my eyes, you know it happens every time I think about a mod that I thought would save me Isn't that the way they say it goes? "Shortly after Beccone declares his undying support for the president-elect, a political discussion at the bar heats up, then erupts into a chant of, 'Trump! Trump! Trump!' When a lone female voice calls out, 'Hillary!' a man yells: 'Kill her!'"
Why did Donald Trump win? Just visit Luzerne County, Pennsylvania If you care about the "how?" and "why?" questions of Trump's win, and you're interested in understanding the thought process of flipped Obama voters who now support Trump, this is a very compelling article. It's also wholly unsettling on multiple fronts. Economics, healthcare and job security (socially appropriate) concerns aside, racial tensions and Dictionary.com's word of the year "xenophobia" does seem to have contributed very directly to the outcome of the general. Anyway, this is a nice little window into the kind of community in which I find myself after spending most of my life in the liberal "paradise" (bacchanalia?) of the Pacific Northwest. |

How dare you bro. I read that entire thing looking for a reference to myself. I will never get that 45 seconds of my life back! If this thread has indeed "outlived its usefulness" (what "use" did it or any other thread ever have beyond providing an outlet for catharsis, pontification and lolzorz?) then anyone who feels that way can simply stop coming here and saying things — the self-help equivalent of moderator enforced thread closure. OR... or... we can start a new thread. Call it "President Trump support system thread" or "Adult children of Trump's 'Murica." Or, if we want to talk strategy and tactics for '18, maybe something like "Dumping Trump: Where do we go from here?" or "I survived 11/8/16 and all I got was this shitty Trump thread." Whatevz. Anyway the thread title is meaningless. I'm happy to say goodbye to this one if we continue the discussion somewhere else. Whether we go along and get along or fight fight fight, I, like John Oliver and all the pop-media bros who have suspiciously co-opted his "Nothing about this is normal" message on Nov. 13, feel very strongly that we need to keep this conversation going. Those of us who are interested, concerned, terrified enough to commit time and energy and money to fighting this administration in the future will all be better off if we can spitball about logistics and keep a hawk eye on Trump and his zombie cabal of a cabinet. The initial question "Is Donald Trump really a serious contender for the Republican nomination?" is certainly moot at this point (as Rob said, I'd say he has a pretty good shot), but at the same time, seeing that question posed that way is a constant reminder of how bizarre and alien this new American reality is. So, fuck.. change the thread, kill the thread, keep it going, who cares? But it would be counterproductive to abandon the conversation altogether. As I've said, I have precious few people in my "real life" with whom I can talk openly about this, and this thread has been helpful to me, has helped me process and grieve and given me an outlet for the incessant bitching that is in my nature. So I think I kind of need this conversation, whatever form it takes. |

the BIG problem with these articles are that they don't look at how self-serving and exculpatory the people are being. I (used to) work with just the type of folks in the article. And, since I am white and blue eyed and don't talk a bunch, they generally felt free to express themselves. And, what the majority of them wanted was to see a white, male, gun owning society. That and tax cuts. Peel back the onion (I was going to say something else ) and you'll find just that. |

I hear you. I work with people like this too. What's more, I cover school districts that are filled with high school teachers who think it's OK to spout their political opinions to their students, even if the smarter ones do it with some measure of subtlety. In all the talk about what Hillary got "wrong" and what Trunp got "right" in reaching the American people, we can't blind ourselves to the fact that many of the people are extremely limited in their thinking. In-group biases are a fact of life, and I think this article (the Newsweek one) acctually does a fairly good job of illustrating this. We hear people unabashedly claiming that they want fewer "Hispanics" in their town. I get that Hillary didn't run an ideal campaign, and as Symbols had said (in this thread or maybe in the "funny" one) it is a mistake to simply write-off Trump and his supporters as ignorant or bad people... but it's also a mistake to pretend as though ignorant and bad people were not part of what made this happen. |

but if your particular observations are universal, how come these people voted for kenyan muslim obama who was wary of "guns and religion" instead of white, pro-2nd-amendment john mccain, and white, pro-2nd-amendment mittens? people vote their perceived self-interest. that perceived self-interest may include some measure of racialism but i'm not buying that it's the end-all-be-all of the self-interest calculus. guns may be a part of it too. but i believe economics is the biggest one. i remember a story about a 2nd amendment (female) voter somewhere around those parts, in 2008, could have been PA or maybe OH, who was told by her sister to vote for obama because with 4 more republican years she wouldn't have any money to buy guns anyway. |

sure it's also a mistake to assume that democrats don't have their own army of ignorant and bad people as well, especially when seen from the point of view of a conservative. go read fox news and see how you're perceived--i won't repeat here but yes, there are other movies playing where you're the villain baby killer open-borders anti-american vet-disrespecting liberty-destroying economy-killing benefit-mooching usa-betraying god-hating smug liberal. (o well, i repeated after all. you get the idea.) and here's a poster by the way like i said earlier i'm done with manichaean polarities. "us good, them bad." from either side. it's a crock of shit. it's how neocons see the world. and it's why politicians are failing us. too busy killing each other to get anything done. i was committed to the hyperpartisan game up to election, but i'm done with this nonsense. my mind was so tightly wound up it got cramps. it started failing to be a mind and just became a fucking bullhorn. fuck that. i'm free to think freely again. democrats have done fucked up and if they keep playing the same broken record and don't change their ways they'll just keep winning some cities and losing the nation, one state legislature/governor's mansion/congress seat at a time. and yeah i don't wanna hear any more moans of "everyone's fault but mine". own up your shit, democrats. |

I don't. I still don't. I haven't read one single article which purports to tell me why Trump won. And no offense, but I skim, at best, any analysis posted here. Again, this is my impression of the vast majority of news/opinion sources: pre-election "Here's why Trump can't win." post-election "Here's why Trump won." Lots of convincing stats, charts, historical precedents, etc. in both cases, and one always walks away feeling a tad smarter. But what a crock. Fuck the eggheads. Analyze my left one, Ezra Klein. |

so, why did those "obama voters" vote for Trump? Probably because they didn't vote for Obama. They're lying to look better. I think there's a lot of Trump voters who will not admit they voted for him, either, especially after what's going to be happening...
