anyone remember the "Composer" that was in the Mario Paint on the old NES.
They've got a PC based mod for it available here: http://www.unfungames.com/mariopaint/ I remember going to my uncles house when I was 14 and he had this game for the NEW. I was supposed to sleep on the couch, but stayed up until the sun came up (nothing new), and played with the music composer all night. looking back, that thing was waaaaay ahead of it's time. The way it laid out the music editing is basically how all digital recording software appear. I might be wrong, but I think this was way ahead of PC based music recording and think this layout and concept of drop in notes on scales could have set the stage for professional software today, especially when talking about sequencing and midi composing.

Wow, yeah, that was awesome.
I dont have anything useful to add, but I used to use that part in marop paint where the game would fuzz out and shut down to my friends to tell them it was time to get the hell out of my house. I was like "we are having technical difficulties, it is now time for you to call your mom and leave". |

Great free 8-bit-game-sound-making-thing I found recently (in case you don't have fruity loops with peach and toad):
http://famitracker.shoodot.net/ You can even save the files to .NSF, in case you're making your own game or game mod or just want to replace the music in a game you already have. |

Mario Paint is also one of the games with Kazumi Totaka's Song!
Also, HOMESTAR RUNNER was originally animated with Mario Paint. Amazing. |

I wish they'd perfectly emulate the Genesis soundchip (or have they?) for some VST plugins. The Genesis had BY FAR the best music of any game system ever... the weird, deep bass and shit.. jesus.

Really? Damn, I envy your perceptions. I cant recall anything beyond my old wood panelled tv. It was like a station wagon wagon on the lawn, if you'd allow the big bowed windshield as the screen.
So tired, bye asp. Edit, ok i will, then bye. edit x2, oferfuckssakes, i hate doing this, but that is fucking intense. |
