I saw them last night. They were amazing.
Formed two years ago in South London, Hey Colossus steer a fearsome three-pronged guitar attack, with Ian Scanlon on guitar/vocals, Bob Davies (guitar/vocals), James Parker (guitar/vocals) and a battering-ram rhythm section courtesy of Joe Thompson and Tim Hall on bass and drums. The four-piece released their debut album, a colossal 5 track 12" in 2004, titled 'Hey Colossus Hates You,' 35 minutes of eardrum bursting noise with one track boasting an impressive 18 minute running time. A split 7" with The Lords soon followed (out on Theory of Nothing Records) and in January 2005 another split 7" with the Phil Collins 3 was released on Victory Garden Records. They released their second full length Hey Colossus II in March. Naturally given their obsession with loudness, you'd expect their influences to be suitably heavy. And you'd be right. Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Neurosis, Isis and High on Fire rock the mighty Colossus's world, along with a tendency towards the kraut rock of Can and Neu. Since that was written (in 2005) they've released lots more stuff, most recently a CD "Happy Birthday" on Riot Season. What a damn cool title, eh? Anyway, if you like that chaotic noisy heavy stuff, you should try 'em. You'll like 'em. http://www.myspace.com/heycolossus http://www.heycolossus.com/index.html |

this is good. they reminded me vaguely of the heads on certain songs, which is a good thing in itself.
