i didn't know this..
appearantly, appearantly the cover of DDN was taken from a painting called "Drei Kerzen" by Gerhard Richter, 1982. it was later sold at a Christie's auction in 2001 for more than 5 million dollars.. then i found these.. i thought you guys might be interested... so, what do you think? how anti-rock is that? how cool is that?

Interesting. Didn't know that either.
Who's signature is that? Looks like Richters? I wonder who bought the art piece?

DDN was never officially released here..
back then the planet didn't have online shopping.. even when a sonic youth album was issued, (the first example is washing machine) the liner notes were minimal to lower the costs.. it eas only one page - no liner notes.. so, please stop acting like a self righteous prick..

pretty much most SY albums utilise bohemian or otherwise artwork... Marnie Weber, William Burroughs, Mike Kelley, Richard Kern and Richard Prince are all names you should google if you are limited to reductive, un-informative CD sleeves. Thank you.

the daydream nation imagery lingers in my mind since i was 15... 7 years ago... very stark, but at the same time the image of the flame suggests warmth... it really captured my imagination at the time and, as the second SY album I got, the cover art was another part of an esoteric puzzle... fragments i was acquiring and piecing together... exotic sounds and imagery flowing into my psyche... this was in the days before you could go online, download loads of songs, videos, and pictures... there was something infinitely more satisfying about discovering a new band then, like taking a voyage into the unknown...

Daydream Nation's cover is just so Iconic, I think its the greatest album cover ever! It just is the perfect image for the music inside. And the name "Daydream Nation" is still so poinent now.

I really like the looks of those pictures. Very interesting. I kinda wish the cover of Daydream Nation looked like the last two pictures instead of the first. They just have a little bit more character. A little something extra.
