Sorry I couldn't find a bigger picture of the ad, but here's the article:

Basically Xiu Xiu, KRS and Tound & Go and some other labels are going after the magazine and the cigarette ad people. |

^I'm sure Michael Jackson would disagree with that!

im glad these bands and labels are standing up for themselves, and more importantly, being a nuisance to camel/rolling stone. it doesnt matter if jamie gets rich or if he loses his shirt. the point is that camel and rolling stones parent company shouldnt be able to just make money off of anyone whenever they want, without permission. in other words, this is about power. the bands deserve more of it and camel deserves less.

That's how I feel about it too. I'm especially pleased to see the labels standing up for their artists. It would be easy for the Skin Grafts and Kill Rock Stars of the world to say, "Hmm, well at least we got global exposure of our artists in the biggest rock magazine, maybe we shouldn't raise their hackles and just let them do what they want..." Instead they are actually sticking up for their artists and saying, you can't use them in an advertisement without getting their permission. The fact the product in question is so insidious really doesn't matter - I'd hope they'd do the same thing if the ad had been for Gibson or Marshall instead. |
