Sure, Le Fly Pan Am is fucking awesome. But the projects they did after that (Feu Thérèse, Pas Chic Chic) aren't really good, so I'm not sure whether I really want a new Fly Pan Am if it sounds anything like those - that's what I meant

(Much as Bytor does), I'm reviving an old thread with some relevant news: Godspeed You! Black Emperor have been touring North America this summer, and their setlist contains two new tracks: 'Glacier' and 'Cliff'. This live recording from Georgia has them in pretty good quality (and it's done by the guy behind Reflecting in the Chrome, in a fun crossover).

cool, there are a couple more new Godspeed shows from that tour on archive.org as well as one on Dime. Haven't listened to any of them yet though.
There will also be a new Fly Pan Am record out next month

I’m not the one who started this practice, I’ve just been trying to keep it going. Always nice to remember what was once said. If you keep at it, you’ll be shocked the at bands / topics that have multiple multiple threads while others have one or nada......thanks for keeping with tradition! Quote:

At work listening to I Hate Music Podcast featuring: Daniel Menche.
Mr. Menche tells a story about one of the guitarist from Godspeed You! Black Emperor being flown over to Europe to be part of some guitar group that was going to play while Patti Smith read poetry. Eveidently the GY!BE guitarist didn’t know how to read music/keep time and Flea from RHCP went ballistic going off on the guy. Anyone else familiar with this story? Daniel Menche talks about being a school teacher and how he can hear the band practicing down the hallway......and all they do is keep time and keeping time = math and who wants to listen to math??? And there is over an hour of the podcast remaining : ) |

I guess that must be Efrim. He mentions it as well on this interview, towards the end. It was either himself only, or A Silver Mt Zion backing up Patti.
I think I have a recording of it somewhere, if you're interested. Don't recall if it was this particular show that also featured Flea. edit: found the description of this show on Dime's archives. Gues sthis is the night he's referring to: Quote:

Wow, haven't seen a music reply this informative in a long time - thanks!
While I would be interested in hearing the recording, I no longer have a home computer/external hard drive......just my phone so I’m not sure how I could listen? Thanks for sharing the interview, it’s my first reading about: All Lights Fucked On The Hairy Amp Drooling......have you heard it? It was on a whim that I even searched for Daniele Menche via the podcast app on my phone. From what I’ve heard, he’s a really nice guy but a bit of an odd duck. I’m guessing most “noise” people are. Anyway, I never expected to hear him discussing Flea and GY!BE. Thanks again for this additional info, I appreciate it! Quote:

you're easily pleased Quote:
well yeah, that's a bit problematic. I searched the web a bit, and saw a YT clip of Patti and Flea with Bachir Attar and The Master Musicians of Joujouka. But I can't find anything with SMZ, there was one page that did have a YT link but it's no longer accessible. I searched the PC and it's not on it. I might have it on an external somewhere, or not. I don't know what I have Quote:
No. All that's floating on the internet is fake, I once downloaded something that was supposed to be Side B of the tape and at least some of it sounds like GYBE. But I got confirmation from someone who does know the tape that whatever I have heard is not it. And he told me that it's not that good and it was probably for the best that it remains a mystery. Unfortunately I forgot that it was fake, so just now I have been listening to it, thinking it was the real deal, until I checked my old mail conversations about it.. Quote:
I tried to listen to it, but didn't like the music, so I stopped after like 20 minutes. Podcasts are not really my kind of thing. Quote:
