There's still a mainstream music business?

For now. But according to the mighty Thom Yorke, there won't be one in several months time. |

Why the dig at Radiohead? Do you have a vested interest in mainstream music? |

Radiohead are pretty bad. They have a few good songs, especially on Kid A and Amnesiac, but most of their output is awful. In Rainbows is one of the worst albums I've ever heard.

I listened to The Bends and Ok Computer. Was pretty unimpressed and didn't understand all of the praise for those albums. Listened to Kid A a while later and was totally blown away in a way that I rarely am. Loved that record. Listened to In Rainbows and again meh. Haven't listened to anything else but I loved Kid A. I heard Amnesiac was recorded around the same time in a similar style so I want to check that one out but I don't think I'll like anything else.

Someone just needs to force Thom to sit through his solo record. I'm sure he's never listened to it from beginning to end. Once he hears it, he'll go "Wow, I can't believe I made such dog shit. Time to take my billions of dollars and retire."
Y'know, cuz Thom has integrity and stuff, cuz he said "George Bush sucks. HAIL TO DA QUEEF" and whatnot. |

I don't see how he came to this conclusion. Wishful thinking maybe?
I hate to say this, but without all the money that comes with being a big name artist/band, the high end and boutique instrument market would collapse because no one would be able to afford any of it.

What a fuck, tells the people to not bother getting into the business that made him rich. Isnt he lucky, the last of the great pioneers, and we're all wasting our time. Fuck off.

I think by 'music business' he means the industry of producers, labels, and executives rather than making your own music and getting money from it.
In any case, this seems like just the same 'the sky is falling' kind of stuff that Yorke always says, like the world markets are going to crash (close, but not exactly). Take it with a grain of salt, he's a musician. And I like pretty much everything Radiohead has done to some degree. |

reading through the comments after the article it's funny to see that people take this stuff so offensively, like they think thom yorke is trying to end all music now that he's made his money
