So I ain't moving to Portland. I'm moving to S. Carolina.
Ah, well. One advantage is I have a better chance of making a go at opening a record store (CD, LP, new, old, hangout kind of place, connected to the local scene). So help me come up with a name. If I use your name, I'll send ya some freebies after I open shop. Also, if you happen to have any rockandroll paraphrenalia ya wanna get rid of (for free--I'm trying to keep start-up expenses down), let me know.

It's a bit awkward to say. I'll think about this though.

Thanks. I'm a little disappointed, I have to admit. At the same time, Portland seems expensive as hell. I might move there and not be able to afford to do anything, so what would be the point? This way we might be comfortable enough for me to actually do something I really want to do like start this store, which has always been a dream of mine.

Nah, don't be. I'm not. This is the silver lining, man.
We found out house prices are outrageous. Like half a million for about the same size house we're in now, and we don't have a big place! It's about 1/3 that in Columbia. Also my 23 year old daughter's beau is from Columbia, and my daugher says it's actually a pretty cool college town.

oh... college town...
well, it might be better then. whoa, im still recovering. i felt like you were going to a penal colony! well then i hope you enjoy it. im sure there will be good things to enjoy. record store name, huh? i have a friend who went broke with a record store in south carolina. he only sold poetry though! (go figure...). and yes try to keep your costs as low as possible because you have to compete with walmart & the internet- developing a niche is probably the way to go rather than squaring off with the giants. even with country music which is bound to be popular there-- you could carry the obscure & unusual rather than the crappity crap. ha ha, sorry, i still haven't recoverd from the vicarious shock. but yeah... i'll think about a name... it will probably be a shitty one im afraid, im not good at picking names. |

Fat Wreck Chords is already taken by Fat Mike of NOFX. I'd go with Rather-than-Portland Music. you can call it RPM for short. |
