Linda Martini is a portuguese band known in the press as the portuguese Sonic Youth. well... it's a bold statement. i think they are a little bit more then that. Maybe you should check them out. http://www.myspace.com/lindamartini http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNe-_FFoCyY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9pBqYIVhSE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVFqndRZ5ko http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1LjFtfhpQk |

Bela iniciativa.
Easily my favourite portuguese band ever, I love their first three releases, all of them are something really meaningful to me. About the "portuguese SY" thing, it's indeed bold and, in my opinion, kind of unnecessary. It's clear that there's some influence, particularly on some occasional noise jams, but we can also hear a lot of hardcore and post-rock on their songs. Unfortunately, I don't think one can fully enjoy their music without knowledge of the portuguese language. Even though there's not a lot of singing, their lyrics have a huge importance. For me, hearing those words on our language is something really special. That said, I'm actually yet to hear their new album, which I probably won't like so much, at least judging from some songs that came out earlier and what I heard live. |

The new album is amazing! More rock, less hardcore or post-rock. A little bit less harsh on the ears, so to speak. efeito estúdios Valentim de Carvalho. i will have to give it a little bit more time to listen to it but i think i like it more then "Olhos de Mongol". Not as much pure emotion as in Olhos. The lyrics are very minimal and hard to decipher from an outsider pov. "Elevador" é do caralho! completa
Queluz menos luz: Queluz é o sítio, queluz é o berço. btw, Hélio Morais is a fucking demigod! http://uploading.com/files/8bc51bm9/...02010.rar.html |

I listened to this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNe-_FFoCyY
I was a bit 'meh, this is alright...' but then the lyrics came in. Really effective, even if I couldn't understand them. While I'm here, someone recommend me some fado please.

I've got an Amalia Rodrigues CD. She's like the Edith Piaf of Fado. You should like very much.

It goes like: give me your best knife / so we can cut this into two / and tomorrow forget - damn, the translation just couldn't sound any worse than this, haha. But yeah, the lyrics and the heart they put in every song it's what really makes the band stand out, because, let's face it, they're not genius or groundbreaking or anything like that. Fado... honestly, that's a genre I just can't seem to get into. We surely have some great artists with worldwide acclaim (Amália Rodrigues, Mariza, Ana Moura...), and I can see why... But unfortunately it doesn't click. @ chrome noise tape: I sure as hell won't forget THAT. Seeing Swans live... that's a dream coming true. |

Hah, of course, "the men with a thousand fingers", should've remembered that. He was absolutely amazing. There's this funny story about Jimmy Page buying a portuguese guitar and then breaking it because he just couldn't play it.

I can't seem to get into fado. it's a shame that young people don't listen to fado. that's the worst defect about portuguese people, we just don't give a shit about our culture, what's foreigner it's allways the best. spainish people are proud of their flamenco, why souldn't we be proud of fado.
