Lots of drums, screaming and pianos. This band are really neat... their self-titled record has been played a lot. A LOT!
Here's a cruddy live video which doesn't really capture what they sound like much but it's cool anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e72w5ooNr6s Any other fans? I know DJ Rick is. |

The Chariot Swing EP is still my favorite. More of a beauteous form of "brutal-prog" if you must ghettoize it into a made-up genre. Later stuff is more brutal. If you know about the player-piano scrolls of Conlon Nancarrow, then you know where this unusual style of piano comes from. (Also, that Dutch 90s manic piano prog group Alboth! is a notable reference point.)
Pretty diversely influenced stuff. Mindboggling. Certainly not for everyone. http://www.myspace.com/silentist Try this other Portland band for something kinda similar... http://www.myspace.com/thebettertoseeyouwith

This doesn't flick my switches, I'm afraid.
"Imagine Arnold Schoenberg's "Pierrot Lunaire" (basically an atonal nightmare composition from 1912) as played by a grindcore version of Melt Banana" I admire TBTSYW's chutzpah for this. Their music's not as good as this statement, but it's still alright. I would not object if they played sounds in front of me.

It's kind of ironic as well, given that they're devoutly tonal.

the singer August was in an excellent hardcore band here in town Society of Friends so thats how i became familiar with them i actually just put Nightingales in my top 20 of the decade and thats why i came here looking for other albums of the decade i may have forgotten |
