Very few bands release perfect albums. One in a million, maybe. Fewer release multiple perfect albums. Sonic Youth has released many... which ones do you think fall under the "absolutely perfect I love every moment of every song" category?
For me its: Bad Moon Rising Sister Daydream Nation A Thousand Leaves Murray Street Goo would be perfect but for "My Friend Goo". Rather Ripped is almost there, but there are a few... er... lyrical... mmm... fumbles. Washing Machine is damn close, but the album as a whole is not a perfect entity, like those above. EVOL is closest of all, but I still skip a track here and there. NEVER with those listed above. I love every line of every song, love the order, love the progression, love the cover, love the feel.... those are PERFECT albums. So, how about you? |

I wouldn't say any are perfect, but Sonic Nurse may come the closest for me.

All except Rather Ripped. That album just sucks.

Washing Machine is a peak of their career, I'm sure.

None to be honest (there's always one or several tracks I don't like on any of their albums).

Jest Set might be perfect too... I'll have to think about that one.
And I'm always reconsidering EVOL, but the fact that I doubt it at all means that it's probably not perfect... to me. |

Bad Moon Rising Daydream Nation Murray Street EVOL I mean.. if you mean perfect as in everything from beginning to end being excellent.. this would be my list. I still enjoy albums like Sister more than Murray Street.. but hot wire my heart has always been a pretty weak song in my opinion. Goo, Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star, Sonic Nurse, Washing Machine, A Thousand Leaves, NYC Ghosts & Flowers are all good/great too. Edit: recently I've been thinking their best might be Daydream Nation. I actually thought it was overrated when I first listened to it.. I sat through it numerous times and ended up loving it. I'm always changing my mind though when it comes to favorites. |

I felt the same way about Daydream for a long time. Naturally, it was one of the first few SY albums I bought, but it didn't do much for me until a couple years ago. Hyperstation is just intense.

DDN is perfect. No question. What is it's 00's equivalent? has there been one? Don't tell me it's "You Forgot it in People" by Broken Social Scene. That's a kene record that recalls some of DDN's energy, but ... hmm... maybe Source Tags and Codes? |

No SY album is perfect, but 98% of them are awesome.
As for Source Tags and Codes being a 2000s Daydream Nation...that record seems kinda dated to me now, although I can see where you're coming from. Also, in the eyes of many And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead have gone downhill since then (I haven't really felt the desire to check out any of their post ST&C work so I have no opinion)...

I totally forgot to mention NYCG&F.
Each song is perfect, the production, the low profile the album keeps all the way through..wonderful! |
