I've given up most junk food and a lot of red meat, but I was at a cook-out with some friends Sunday who were grilling some hot dogs, and oh, dude, did they smell good.
How does one deal with such cravings? Seriously.

maybe you could try to break a bit with the typically american all or nothing mentality.

You mean like saying, "Thanks, I'll consider your advice," instead of just "Fuck you"?

Health concerns mostly. Trying to ward off the bad things like colon cancer, heart disease, obesity. Red meat's not good for you, young man. I still eat it occasionally if it's lean, but not very often. And I'm not fanatical about it--I'll eat it if my host serves it or whatever. I'm just trying to live healthier.

Yeah, most people these days know it's bad. Sorry. Didn't mean to presume you didn't.
At the same time, I can't go vegetarian, quite. I tried for about a year a while back, and it was hard to make sure I still had adequate sources of protein. Plus I do still crave that burger now and then, and they say it's better to occasionally give in to those cravings than to torture yourself over it, because then you end up binging later on.

I do hope for you that when you write your column it doesn't up being a parody of something else.

I only eat Jewish hot dogs called Hebrew National.
although I don't eat them often, my opinion is that the kosher meat HAS to be better than the lips and buttholes they put in "normal" hot dogs. |

Some orthodox Jews won't eat Hebrew National because they are owned by a large conglomorate and they don't trust the hechsher. (certification) Plus they are not considered glatt. http://fourquestions.us/judaism/kashrut/hechsher.php Why do I know this? I'm in New York...everyone's a little Jewish in New York.

the other weekend i went to this earth day thing and they were selling "veggie bratwurst" and while they have tasted like ass in the past i thought "why the fuck not"? and ordered one and holy ass my friend, holy ass, good shit indeed, better than some low-rent cancer-addled sausage. now, i know you used to live in deutschland (not sure of the spelling here), so you know the difference between fine lips & assholes and the chemical mush that goes into the amerikan hot-dog, but anyway, if you are in the mood for a vegetarian adventure, try this crap: http://www.fieldroast.com/products.htm the smoked apple is what i ate as "bratwurst", on a hard roll, topped with onions and green peppers and yellow mustard-- it was fucking supreme. so i bought a pack right after the event. ate it in various forms including with mushrooms in a pasta sauce. now i have the mexican chipotle in the fridge and i'm going to work it into some chili beans. next i'll buy the italian sausage & make myself some great pasta. in any case--good stuff. anyhuevos. try it. |
