Statement submitted for debate: Standards have gone downhill so far in the last 10 to 15 years, that--when compared to the 'pop' and 'bubblegum' music of today-- The Monkees, The Archies, David Cassidy / The Partridge Family, The Bay City Rollers, etc.--now sound like (as the DJs and VJs like to put it) 'cllasssiccc rrroccckkk!' If you're in agreement, it's frightening, isn't it?

People who like Classic Rock are inevitably gonna be drawn more to bands like The Bay City Rollers or The Archies than they are the Black Eyed Peas or Dizzee Rascal or whover. Classic Rock fans distrust anything they can't easily TAB.

Indeed, and in the UK, we have magazines like "Mojo", "Uncut" and "Classic Rock" which put out the orthodoxy of a period of "classic" rock that is revisited again and again. I'm sometimes partial to these magazines myself, but always remember that what they are punting is ultimately a look-back agenda....

i don't think any of those bands sound like rock music. i don't really know what you mean by standards have declined either.

I remain of the opinion that certain listeners are not listening attentively enough and are too quick to pass on judgement. I used to think it was a problem that concerned only people my age. In the last couple of years I realized it's more widespread than that, so I just like to put a record on, chill, and stopped caring about debating these things. They're tiring and rarely a learning experience.

It's weird that there's kids, refusing to listen to anything new, sticking with the rocknroll dinosaurs, complaining about the "declining standards".
To me that seems like a case of "a 17 year old with a mindset of a dull 45 years old".

It is very sad. I see 12 year olds with Pink Floyd Tshirts all of the time.

They have to creat their own generation which they haven't done so yet.
