So the other day, it was new year's eve, i showed up at a concert that featured a bunch of hardcore bands-- it felt like a time machine, since just a couple of weeks earlier i had watched "american hardcore", and now there i was, in a small basement of a house where band after band played-- it was really fucking good, had a great time, etc, but i was wondering about the archaeology of it all... when did this begin again, & all? anyone knows?

FAR more interesting is the revival in old-school happy hardcore. More Bonkers! Yeah!

Nice to see I'm not the only one keeping it 'aaaardcore. Don't get me whistles out as much as I should these days though.

i know nothing about fruity dance music... im talking about punk, hardcore punk-- a la bad brains, minor threat, black flag, circle jerks, etc. these people were preaching straight edge and doing circle jerk covers... a most curious choice. |

Yeah, but that's shit. Happy Hardcore is where it's at. I know you're a little old and probably think you're past it, but you're not. IF you listen to Happy Hardcore.

Homoerotic? And you're talking about American hardcore? Which is entirely made up of ugly men playing guitars in an ugly way whilst topless? And you think Happy Hardcore's homoerotic?

I know here, and all around this country has been pretty hardcore crazy the last 4 years inparticular. Before that it was more underground, a small clique, but now everyone seems to be sprouting off that they love hardcore music - even mainstream kids.

A lot of people are stuck in one era or another. I know people that talk like they were born in the 1940s, use a shitload of pomaid, love old cars, gretsch guitars and double basses. (greaser chicks can be really hot though, so I don't know if I can blame them.) Like this guy: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=669 9621 Hardcore is pretty damn popular with the kids 'round here though. Ian Mackaye and Henry Rollins are gods to some of the yunguns in western pa. Converting Minor Threat fans into Rites of Spring/Happy Go Licky/Fugazi fans is a long and arduous process. |

I agree. But hardcore music is still popular at the moment whether they're the essence of it or not.

it's true porks, believe it or not. i was equally surprised. i heard "punk bands" would be playing, and when i showed, it was dc, circa 1982. as a matter of fact, some bands were quite fucking good, and we bought records. listen: http://www.myspace.com/blackss they had a really kickass drummer! after the record i think live was better. other bands present... http://www.myspace.com/iobject <-- these people actually just made a record w/ alternative tentacles http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=611 6386 http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=608 20198 were there were a lot of bands actually, here a poster: however, i am still mistified by the time-machine effect of that evening it's not like the swing fad of the 90's-- this people believe in this as a movement-- straight edge and veganism, or something. anyway, peculiar, huh? Alot of it is actually very 1D standard hardcore. Here anyways. But yes, there is alot of bands that tune down their guitars and growl into the mic pretending they're screaming, all dressed up with hours spent on their hair, too.

Yesterday I came up with "humorcore", which sums up any band that considers themself "(randomwordhere)core".
