I'M SURE this thread has been around already, but I couldn't find it, or maybe it hasn't. I just saw Richard Kern's 80s work and am AMAZED. I had never seen a woman sewing a vagina before; I like his crude sort-of-feminist politic. This is a revelation for me. have you seen his work? what is your favorite? you can catch the Hardcore Collection here. I love "You killed me first", "Fingered", "The sewing circle"... all of it.

I think I sold it for beer years ago. I dont really remember. It was really expensive, and I watched it once, and it sat on my shelf forever never re-watched so at some point I made the decision to part with it.

I find Sewing Circle quite pointless.
A sewn up vagina isn't practical or hygienic. It's a feminist statement that goes nowhere, if you ask me. Nevertheless, I like most of Kern's work. Women’s sewing circle. Photography archive of the League of Finnish Feminists. |

I'd like to see official dvd releases of all those no wave films at some point. It'll never happen though.

Maybe you misunderstood me. I don't have a problem with women engaging in feminist issues. It just depends on how they 'liberate' themselves. I much prefer the way Lydia Lunch, Kirsten Justesen, or Marina Abramovic express their sexuality as women. Sewing Circle does nothing for me, but then again, I'm a guy. Virginal Apparitions |Jasmine Graf | 2007 In Virginal Apparitions, etchings of the Virgin Mary are printed on the inside crotch area of lacey, provocative panties. This does not “suggest our success or failures as women.” There are, however, passages in the Bible (Leviticus 15) that address the issue of female discharge and menstrual blood as being unclean. The fact that these “stains” are images of Mary is ironic. I agree these objects have the potential for shame, and that is what compliments its impression. ~Jasmine Graf Back on topic. Right side of my Brain is my favorite on that DVD. Edit: You're trying too hard to make Ellen Barkin look bustier, atsonicpark? |

I want to make a park and live on it
I don’t know anyone in the city That understands this part like you do I’m leaving it here I’m going to walk away But with the park and the dogs The birds and the squirrels The cats and the people go away Because it’s my park The land was just here I took it and I made it a park I like the trees Green leaves Alive I’ll make some pathways And put rocks all around I don’t need a gymnasium I’ll sit up straight and keep my mind on you You came and took control You’ll tell me what to do And that’s what it’s all about I’m making this park There’ll be lots of things to do out there Hello How are you Fresh air and the dogs And if there’s some new thing We’ll check it out |
