(LE) POISSON ROUGE
158 Bleecker St. (212-505-3474)—Dec. 18: The New York noise-rock duo White Out celebrate the release of “Senso,” an intense live double album that includes Thurston Moore sitting in on guitar and the Chicago-based experimental musician and producer Jim O’Rourke handling keyboards. The percussionist Tom Surgal and the multi-instrumentalist Lin Culbertston first came together in 1995, and they tend to employ a wide array of instruments, including analogue synthesizers, electric autoharp, flute, drums, singing bowls, and metal scraps to fuel their improvisatory and sometimes brilliant jams. “Senso” was recorded in 2004 at the now defunct Lower East Side club Tonic, and it’s an excellent showcase of White Out’s strengths—dissonant chaos and rhythmic non sequiturs that evoke the angular modernism of the “Bitches Brew”-era Miles Davis groups. This performance will feature Moore. The long-standing Philadelphia psychedelic-rock outfit Bardo Pond shares the bill. http://www.newyorker.com/arts/events...#ixzz0Zkl2Q65p |
