What do you guys think about them?
Their music is pretty heavy but I can listen them in one line with SY.. They will release the new album soon, it's called "Monochrome". Wharton Tiers produced it. |

i hear the new one isn't as embarrasing as their last album.
i love them!!! i love how simple their music is yet every album of them is different and has a different texture to it. i'm digging the older stuff mostly myself for the past couple of months (born annoying, strap it on, meantime). and the lineup is pretty fucked up, it's page hamilton and the guitar player from orange 9mm and two other dudes i've never heard of. i call them the ramones of metal, because they stripped everything down to the simplest of things and became pretty much the second most influential metal/hard rock band of the past decade-plus (influencing contemporaries like prong and quicksand, to bands like pantera, white zombie and tool to hardcore bands like earth crisis and sick of it all to utter crap bands like the entire nu metal contingent). |

Yes, Strap it on has some of the best noise rock tunes ever, like Murder and FBLA for example, I wish I'd find Born annoying but it's not available anymore.
The first helmet album I bought was Betty but I wasn't really pleased with it; I only liked the weirder tracks. I 've heard anything after that is even more accessible so I'm not really interested about that stuff. Didn't even bother to check out size matters. I don't really care about them anymore. Although they never were on the same par with Unsane or anything.. |

Yes, Helmet are great. I didn't mind their recent album, but yeah, I didn't enjoy it as much as previous releases. I think Diet Aftertaste is probably my favourite Helmet album. I prefer Meantime and others to Betty, even though I do think it is an awesome album itself.
I'm also a fan of Handsome. Which is Peter Mengede who was in Helmet. Aswell as Tom Capone from Quicksand. And a Cro-Mags member and others. Very Helmet/Quicksand sound, which is quite expected. You can always tell when you're listneing to Handsome though. They have their distinctive sound.

I saw them open for Ministry, but wasn't all that impressed, but that could be because I only cared about Ministry.
maybe I should give them another try. |

I saw them circa "Strap It On" and it was pretty great, reverse-headstock guitars notwithstanding.

I just listened to Born Annoying this weekend, and I dug it. I was pretty rebellious of the whole Amrep scene when it was in full swing since I lived in the area...lotsa good bands I guess, but so many fucking copycats with their dickies pants and jackets trying so hard to be the next amrep signee or some shit...my old band had a song called 'recorded by mac at amrep' since that was the place to record at the time for the bands and the clones.
Saw them in '97 and they were brutally loud. may seem them this weekend If my drugs don't come in from s. america. |

I fuckin love betty, never felt the urge to get anything else though. not sure if two albums would start to take the shine off the style a bit.
