Dinosaur Jr's NO BONES off of BUG The skronk magnificent that erupts washing away everything but itself at exactly 2:42 GET THOSE HEADPHONES GOING. Now which moments in songs have always just gotten your fucking body and brain aligned with themselves and the sonic moment. YOu know what I am talking about. Come on. It's Friday and I am hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii |
The chorus of "feed me with your kiss" by mbv. That main riff riff in the excellent song zeropumpkins alerted me to: flaming lips' "magician vs headache" (or is it headache vs magician? Anyway, great riff!)... xiu xiu's "hives hives" the only song to give me chills no matter how many times I listen to it...

nice!!
|
the opening noise and electronics stuff SY would play before doing hoarfrost during their live sets.
|
Laughing Clowns - Winter's Way
Specifically the haunting saxophone (?) melody used throughout the song. And then the instrumental ending. Einstuerzende Neubauten - Yu-Gung (Futter Mein Ego) The bit about 4: 20 in, where the music stops, and Blixa Bargeld yells "Zieh!" |
Unwound's Scarlette pounding away and then changes chord. Sure it is way simple but intense nevertheless.
|
The Saints - Know Your Product
After a couple of verses and choruses, the brass section riff comes back in again, and Chris Bailey says things like "Yeah!" "Come on!". |
"Hoist That Rag" by Tom Waits
Greatness begins at when the guitar properly kicks in with a lengthy solo. Excellent guitar work from Marc Ribot as usual, who seems to be able to make anything he plays sound horribly atonal and distantly foreign-sounding even though he's hitting perfectly good notes. Live, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0kacLLT248 I urge you to listen. "All You Can Do" by Willy Mason Great beginning. Acoustic plays the riff a couple times, then the drums and electric guitar kick in with it. Powerful blues. "Dang" by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion The "DANG! Shine on.." that leads into the raucous and distorted harmonica solo and then the equally horrendous chorus. This is on youtube, you won't regret it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgkEw4GjtdU |
Raccoo-oo-oon - Call Out Your Friends
When the song explodes into that massive riff, and the voice drowns into the sound, and then everything gets distorded and it's terrific |
jeez.. many of em... one that still gets me is when steve shelley kicks into overdrive on the instumental riffage in the middle of chapel hill..........
|
The all out noise jams in Silver Rocket and Total Trash.
|
No Bones is one of those songs that when it finishes you go like 'aaahhhhhhhh' and youre stunned with how fucking brilliant and how loud a song can get. That moment in the song, btw, is one of my favourite moments in a song ever, it sounds like breaking glass and all this other shit. brilliant stuff.
|
Rocks Off, opening cut on Exile on Main St, the first 20 seconds or so--Keith's little riff, then I think there's a drum crack, and Jagger slurs out a long "Yeahhhh..." Absolutely rock and roll to the bone.

when the richard d james monster screams in that old womans face in the come to daddy video...

Spiritualized - Let It Flow 2:51
it makes my eyes roll back into my head. |
The solos in New Gods and Split Myself In Two by the Meat Puppets.
|
the entire fistful of dollars theme.
|
the opening of "revolution" by spacemen 3 withing the playing with fire album.
because all the previous songs are very chill and have like synths and softer drones, the fuzzed out opening chord is like plugging into a wall socket. --- converge's "the saddest day", the whole fucking song. the opening high pitched dissonant riff only prepares you for the brutality that follows, the band then follows typical suit until the first break comes and the slow riffs starts building and building until the guitar is left playing a tremolo picked riff and the band plays fast again. then the second break comes and everything is slow but heavier than it was and jake just drips blood from his throat. and the lyrics are fantastic. |
Bug's a fucking immense album!
The begining of Fear Of Drowning by British Sea Power "Jesus Fucking Christ oh God, No..." |
These are all some very very nice ones indeed!!!!!! Thanks guys! keep it up. I love checking the ones I have n ot heard out.

i think i prefer the part close to the ending when it just breaks down and gets faster and louder. |
Put a piece of Winterfresh Gum in your mouth WITH the foil still on.
Listen to Radiohead's "Myxomatosis", and start chewing. It is mind altering. |

when you listen to that song on it's own, it has tons of great moments. my point was listening to playing with fire as a whole. -- also, when yamatsuka eye says "newsun" at the very beginning of vision creation newsun. |

Does mine count, Rob? It is only the Stones, after all... . |
oh, everyneurotic, I just thought of the BEST one.
boredoms - super going. when the "glitch" happens about 8 minutes into the song and it goes into a completely new part... |

that's a really good way to fuck up yr teeth too! |
Einstuerzende Neubauten - Sand
The 4th verse starts, and instead of doing his whisper/rasping vocals, Blixa Bargeld starts singing properly. "At night when stars light up the sky!" As Blixa sings that, some glass is broken, and it sounds amazing. |
Gang Gang Dance - The Earthquake That Frees Prisioners
When the unreal synths appear at the beginning of the track |

When the guitar riff comes in during Mr. Bungle's "To Carry Stress in the Jaw"
The melody in "When You Sleep" (Was stuck in my head for weeks) Climax in "Fake Plastic Trees" All of Sludgefeast Screaming in Weezer's "Tired of Sex" The drum breakdown in "Girl/Boy Song" by Aphex Twin When the Amen Break comes in on the song "Drum 'n' Bass For Papa" by Plug When Over the Neptune changes into Mesh Gear Fox in "Over the Neptune/Mesh Gear Fox" by Guided by Voices Many moments on Sunny Day Real Estate's album Diary, but probably mostly on "Song About an Angel" |

hell fuck yeah it counts. I found the 7" with picture sleeve of MISS YOU by the stones, a song I fucking love and it is in NM condition!!!! they look like total hoodlums on the sleeve |
Yeah, I have that too. Great song. I went crazy over Some Girls when it came out, including buying three copies because of the different color schemes on the cover. All with the movie star faces before they stopped printing that cover.
Used to have the long 'disco" version 12 inch of Miss You, but for some reason I gave it to somebody. I keep looking for that one in all the old record stores. |

that part is heaven made sound. --- when the bassline starts on melt-banana's "shield for your eyes..." |
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Cancer Towers On Holy Road Hi-Way
Aphex Twin - Petiatil Cx Htdui No need to explain... |
Okay, this moment lasts about 7 seconds but its one of the most profoundly moving peices of music I've ever heard.
Total Trash 6:00 - 6:07 its the way that Thurston's (I assume it's thurston's) riff is slowly played over Lee's harrowing echoey hellish screech to introduce the reprise. Its such a happy little guitar sequence but played so slowly over Lee's distant screech it sounds so troubling and uncertain, this bit really gives me the fear like no other peice of music. |
i likesss

Live versions of Brother James from the mid 80s, the moment that the cymbals kick in right before Kim starts singing. The guitar's stop strumming so much for a moment.
|
Quote:
Amen, live versions of Brother James are always SY at their feircest. The studio recording has nothing on these. |
Quote:
Exactly. The speed increase on Brother James and Kill Yr Idols makes them so much better. It's like they're trying to play them as fast as possible sometimes. |
That part in "Drunken Butterfly" (think it's after the 2nd chorus) where the guitars/drums make me feel like either
a. I'm being attacked by thousands of bees or b. I'm in the middle of an angry, frozen Antarctica |
