The chorus of "feed me with your kiss" by mbv. That main riff riff in the excellent song zeropumpkins alerted me to: flaming lips' "magician vs headache" (or is it headache vs magician? Anyway, great riff!)... xiu xiu's "hives hives" the only song to give me chills no matter how many times I listen to it...

Laughing Clowns - Winter's Way
Specifically the haunting saxophone (?) melody used throughout the song. And then the instrumental ending. Einstuerzende Neubauten - Yu-Gung (Futter Mein Ego) The bit about 4: 20 in, where the music stops, and Blixa Bargeld yells "Zieh!"

Unwound's Scarlette pounding away and then changes chord. Sure it is way simple but intense nevertheless.

The Saints - Know Your Product
After a couple of verses and choruses, the brass section riff comes back in again, and Chris Bailey says things like "Yeah!" "Come on!".

"Hoist That Rag" by Tom Waits
Greatness begins at when the guitar properly kicks in with a lengthy solo. Excellent guitar work from Marc Ribot as usual, who seems to be able to make anything he plays sound horribly atonal and distantly foreign-sounding even though he's hitting perfectly good notes. Live, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0kacLLT248 I urge you to listen. "All You Can Do" by Willy Mason Great beginning. Acoustic plays the riff a couple times, then the drums and electric guitar kick in with it. Powerful blues. "Dang" by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion The "DANG! Shine on.." that leads into the raucous and distorted harmonica solo and then the equally horrendous chorus. This is on youtube, you won't regret it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgkEw4GjtdU |

Raccoo-oo-oon - Call Out Your Friends
When the song explodes into that massive riff, and the voice drowns into the sound, and then everything gets distorded and it's terrific |

No Bones is one of those songs that when it finishes you go like 'aaahhhhhhhh' and youre stunned with how fucking brilliant and how loud a song can get. That moment in the song, btw, is one of my favourite moments in a song ever, it sounds like breaking glass and all this other shit. brilliant stuff.

Rocks Off, opening cut on Exile on Main St, the first 20 seconds or so--Keith's little riff, then I think there's a drum crack, and Jagger slurs out a long "Yeahhhh..." Absolutely rock and roll to the bone.

the opening of "revolution" by spacemen 3 withing the playing with fire album.
because all the previous songs are very chill and have like synths and softer drones, the fuzzed out opening chord is like plugging into a wall socket. --- converge's "the saddest day", the whole fucking song. the opening high pitched dissonant riff only prepares you for the brutality that follows, the band then follows typical suit until the first break comes and the slow riffs starts building and building until the guitar is left playing a tremolo picked riff and the band plays fast again. then the second break comes and everything is slow but heavier than it was and jake just drips blood from his throat. and the lyrics are fantastic. |
