yes, its floating around in chain letters and bulk forwarded text messages.. a cosmic occurrence of Mayan proportions but from a strictly Western perspective is upon us today..

4pm, 5 minutes after, 6 seconds into on the 7th month, the 8th day, of the 9th year of the new millennium..

of course its its 2001 and the 11th month in Ethiopia, 5767 in Israel, and 1423 as reckoned by the Arabs..

I guess its just a matter of perspective ;)

Very cool SuchFriends !

In 1990 a similar thing happened. Of course it was an AM and a PM phenomena. I'd met a numerologist friend that summer, so I started thinking in those terms for a bit. I came up with this, never read about it and while I was at the beach at the PM time, I stood up and looked around and didn't notice anyone seeming to realize the significance of the moment.

12:34:56,7-8-90

Twelve thirty four, fifty six seconds July 8, 1990.

The next best complete one like that I could think of would've been

1:23:45,6-7-89

But I hadn't thought of that the year before so it went by unnoticed by me. But I freaked out when I realized that 1990 number sequence and REALLY took notice !!

*Oh shit, I just saw what atsonicpark and floating slowly posted...cool but NOT as complete as 19 years ago !!! :)

stu666 07.08.2009 07:44 PM

nicfit 07.09.2009 10:37 AM

mine does that too.
no armageddon for us?

phoenix 07.09.2009 10:48 AM

not until august or something.

phoenix 07.09.2009 10:50 AM

Although, it really doesn't seem as though it will be too bad. Those at the front of the line have already come through and are still posting strong to the internets.

I know it's local convention and all, but does anyone else find themself being excessively irritated by the American date system?

nicfit 07.09.2009 11:22 AM

I do.

radarmaker 07.09.2009 11:24 AM

Nope.

Glice 07.09.2009 04:07 PM

But does it really make sense to go 'medium sized unit/ smaller unit thereof/ larger unit'? Surely 'small unit/ larger unit/ larger unit again' makes more sense? Or at least 'largest unit/ smaller/ smallest'.

See, calender systems with jump months, or two iterations of one month - that makes sense, because the rationale is apparent (if not transparent). But I don't understand the fundamental rationale behind putting months before days before years. You see? Probably not.

EVOLghost 07.09.2009 04:25 PM
