The Wonder - Hyperstation is my all time favourite Sonic Youth "song".
Yes, I know, it's two-thirds of Trilogy, with Eliminator Jr on the end. But Eliminator really is a very seperate sounding piece, isn't it? Meanwhile, The Wonder flows so smoothly and beautifully into Hyperstation, and Hyperstation has a definite fade-out kind of ending. The two parts make one monumental song. Eliminator....um....eliminates that feeling. Eliminator would be so great right after Kissability, I think.
I wish Daydream Nation ended on that final, quiet Hyperstation note, instead of the "fuck you" of Eliminator Jr. Am I alone in this regard? |
think you're right
|
Yeah I agree. Eliminator Jr would have been perfect after Kissability, then The Wonder + Hyperstation to finish a perfect album.
|
I have to totally agree as well, actually.
|
I can definitely see it. It would leave you with that spacy (not Kevin), daydreamy feeling, not to mention that it has the album's titular lyric. At the same time, I always kind of liked the Eliminator ending. It's so hard to say which would be better after loving this record for the past 19 years.
But Wonder/Hyperstation is fucking incredible. Now, you have me thinking that a good discussion topic would be alternative track sequences for SY albums. |

Hahaha....I could do that forever. There is not one album that I've loved where I didn't feel a desperate need to rearrange the tracks into something that I deemed better. But that's my issue, not the Artist's, LOL. (The White Album should have ended with Rev 9 as an unlisted track after Goodnight. Go to sleep, then, have a fucking nightmare, "number 9....number 9".....hahahaha.....) Oh fuck I need help. |
I used to completely agree with that point, I thought Eliminator Jr. was a poor finish to an amazing album. Then I learned to never question Sonic Youth, especially during that period, and in a way it's a fitting end to the album. It sums up the records different eccentricities well and serves as a pretty chilling ending. that being said I think it's by far the worst song on the album.

KIDS CRUISE AWAY...
PACK OF CHICKENSHITS. That being said, I agree completely with exploding plastic candle. |
I thought ending EVOL with bubblegum was a bit out of context. From the darkness and mood of the album to this poppy song with blues licks. But then again, thats whats great about SY.. not taking themselves too seriously.

that's not the real ending, that's just a bonus track they added on the end of the cd re-release. dumb, I know. Same thing with Master-Dik during Sister, except MD isn't quiteee as out of place. |
Right!, I knew about the Master-Dik. Oh well.. haha
|
Oh Man I love Master-Dik, hahaha......such an overlooked / under-rated song. But I digress.
|
Taste my love!!!.....yeah!
|
NO
the big FUCK YOU of Eliminator Jr reminds us that sonic youth' is there to skronkrawk, not to provide you with sleepytime bed jams. ELIMINATOR JR RULES! |
Well, maybe it should have followed Diamond Sea then. :)

I can agree with that...however my ALL TIME FAVORITE~!EQWY#(4 song would probably have to be Kill Yr Idols. |
I think it's great that Eliminator Jr. comes right when listener has fallen into a trance of Hyperstation.

I don't think adding MD was a bad thing for Sister....I mean...MD is fucking awesome. But yeah....they definately need to get rid of Bubblegum on EVOL. |
I'll have to agree with Rob....that big jolt at the end was a part of what made DN such a memorable album when I was getting into them.
