all the record industry has to do is shell out some under the table big bucks to the politicians and they will change the laws to allow this.
In legal documents in its federal case against Jeffrey Howell, a Scottsdale, Ariz., man who kept a collection of about 2,000 music recordings on his personal computer, the industry maintains that it is illegal for someone who has legally purchased a CD to transfer that music into his computer.

that's exactly it. these cocksucks have been milking bands and musicians dry for over a century, chewing them up and spitting them out at a prodigious rate, with no care for the actual humans that make the music they sell, and they dare to spit in the music buying public's face like this?
they will be satuisfied with nothing less than some sort of imbedded code that charges a person a fee everytime they upload their CD onto a hard drive, whether it is to listen to it from the computer or to load up an MP3 player of some kind. That shit is so fucking stupid. copyright is aload of shit these days. "intellectual property" my ass. If I draw something, and frame it, and sell it for $200, I have and should not have, any say whatsoever in what the BUYER of my work chooses to do, whether it is destroy it, photocopy it, sell it to someone else for a million, whatever. music is the same. these fuckers are suing peple who own small businesses, who bring a boombox to their restaurant or store or workplace and play their music while they work. THEY are actually SUING people for that, saying you need a license to play music where others can hear it, even if you paid your $20 for the CD this shit make sme so fucking mad.

how long until you'll have to sign a contract, legal authorisation, physician's prescription and visa and/or green card (in case of not being native) to enter a record store?
how long until: "record industry sues man for playing music too loud; the riaa argues that, xxxxxx xxxxxxx was playing his music at a decibel level high enough for people in the street and around his house to listen to said recording, thus being a case of piracy as these people had no permission to listen to what mr xxxxxx was playing". |

if they have the time and 'authority' to persecute random individuals, why aren't they going after apple, for supplying a cd-upload option in itunes?
i mean, fucking christ...

you are legally allowed to make one back up of any cd or dvd, video or whatever for your own personal use. that is a right of the consumer!

in australia stores need liscences to play music, they pay a yearly fee and have to keep records of what they play so the money they pay get distributed correctly to the artists. |

Actually, this is a very clever and well-timed marketing ploy by the music industry to get more people to buy LPs instead of CDs. The industry has realized its mistake with the whole digital revolution thing, including that music becomes easier to copy. So this move is to discourage people from buying CDs and to encourage them to buy LPs instead.
I think it's fucking brilliant! And long overdue.

its just plain stupid, i dont actually rip music onto my computer or download mp3s but i do record cds to tape to listen to in the car, and ill continue to do so.
i also give/lend old cds, recrods, books and dvds to my firends when ive finished with them, i let my girlfriend keep her yogurt in my fridge, sometimes if i like a song i might sing it in the shower, sometimes i play music loud enough for people other than just myself to hear it, those fuckers should be locked up for stealing. and so on |

i can't wait for them to actually catch a musician downloading music and try and make an example of them (b/c musicians are expendable to them), and have a large portion of well-known musicians fight back against the riaa. in essence, sticking it to the man.
