so there was this version of Lee playing "mote" floating around the internet a few years back (more like ten or so), but i have absolutely no info about this.
if i recall correctly, this was recorded before a Pearl Jam gig in the late 90s, but i might be mistaken. does anyone have any information about that recording? thx |

That is definitely from this show:
Date: Saturday, August 5th, 2000 City: Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Venue: Cat's Cradle -- "PERSPECTIVE MUSICALES" 1. Thurston/Steve/Lee: Psychic Hearts 2. Lee: Gregory Corso reading / Mote solo 3. Lee/Jim/Steve/Thurston: film music to Leah Singer's films 4. Thurston: solo acoustic 5. Kim/Jim/Steve: improv 6. Jim: solo gtr 7. Sonic Youth Schizophrenia White Kross Free City Rhymes Small Flowers Crack Concrete Nevermind Side2Side Kool Thing Hoarfrost Renegade Princess Bull in the Heather NYC Ghosts & Flowers -- 100% A truly special evening featuring some very rare performances for the SYR Perspectives Musicales series. Thurston opened with "Psychic Hearts", during which Jim held up the lyric sheet for him to read. Lee did a Gregory Corso reading followed by a solo rendition of "Mote" which led into a 15-minute improvisation over Leah Singer's films, joined by Thurston, Steve, and Jim. Thurston's solo acoustic set consisted of a small instrumental segment of "Rain on Tin", a full-length instrumental version of "Disconnection Notice", and an instrumental tune called "Marika" that would later be recorded and released on an Ecstatic Peace! compilation entitled "Ecstatic Peace Peach Sampler" which was released around the "Trees Outside the Academy" era. Kim's set contained a 5-minute piece which she announced would not be appearing on her forthcoming SYR, and then "Paperbag/Orange Laptop" & "International Spy". Jim's solo set consisted of "Fuzzy Sun" (with a slight bit of "Not Sport, Marital Art" tagged on the end) and "Halfway to a Threeway". |
